I hope this is the correct place for this post. According to the Drudge Report, this morning on the Don Imus show, Andy Rooney said the following:

'I have a problem with the term African American...The word negro is a perfectly good word. There is nothing wrong with that'

I've gotta hear this, so if anyone has an aircheck of this please email it to me at:

[email protected]

Thanks, and my apologies if I posted this in the wrong place.
______________

I normally catch part of Imus during the morning commute, but missed it today. Is it possible this was one of Larry Kenney's various character bits? I ask because "Andy Rooney" is a recurring "guest", offering a running commenttary of the week's news. If not, then it's my bad. :)

This is the right place but I'm only going to post the link here, not email it.

It's getting a lot of traffic (as you can imagine) and is hard to access right now. It's the video from MSNBC.
______________

Rooney

I heard it on the way to work, which is odd because I hardly ever listen to I-man.

Funny -- if a conservative said what Rooney said, it would be all over every single media outlet, and if it were a conservative politician at that, every lib group would be calling for his/her resignation. But since it's old Andy Rooney the media will give him a pass. There's no media bias. I'm not bitter :)

Give it a break will you. You didn't state the context of the discussion, and how does Rooney's comment have anything to do with political viewpoints. I happen to know Rooney, not well but I have known him for years and he is no bigot, doesn't have a record of being a bigot. If poliitics is what turns you on, I'd be more concerned with what's happening in Washington with all the scandals this administration is accused of and the really low poll numbers both the vice president and president have. Gas at over twice the price of what it was 6 years ago and meanwhile record profits are being earned by our elected leaders friends in the oil industry. Billions of US tax dollars heading to Iraq (Remember the war that was supposed to pay for itself?) and less money being sent back to the states. The republican party is being torn apart by moderates heading in one direction while the neo cons head in the other. All and all, I'd say Rooney's comments are unimportant, but have it your way.

I've heard some conservative hosts conflate this with the Bill Bennett situation and say, "If a conservative in the media said things like
this, he'd be FIRED!"

Tell me what has happened to Bill Bennett as a result of the abortion, babies and crime flap?

Nothing. Nothing at all. Just a lot of publicity, which in a strange way might have helped his low-rated show.
