Imus and Free FM

Just curious, are the personalites at Free FM talking about the Don Imus story? I'm not talking about a brief mention of it. Were there any in depth, lengthy discussions?

Thanks

O&A, The DogHouse, Nick D have spent days on this issue. They have all come to bat for Imus, even with someone of them not knowing him. They even had a free speech rally in the city. They were on the news and were all holding Freedom of Speech signs.

CBS would not let the shows talk to the media. They were told not to talk to any media at all on this issue.

Uhhhhhh you think it's because they all saw their careers flash before their eyes? ::) You're talking about what is essentially a shock station, of course they went to bat for Imus. They're all worried about being next if the fates converge like they did with imus.

Honestly, all of the Free FM talk stations would be better off being something other than talk radio. It has not been anywhere close to a rating's success and the format has not picked up a solid audience in any market that has picked it up. If they see their careers flash before their eyes, it has a little to do with Imus, but very, VERY little at that. It has more to do with overall listener disinterest.

RE FREE FM:
Dallas interloper here...the problem with FREE FM, as I see it, is that FREE FM was a haphazard attempt to franchise successful FM TALK stations that existed in Dallas and LA. The gameplan was developed and dictated by individuals very impressed with their radio mouths, not given to lending their radio ears to people that made the model stations successful.

FM TALK can be a dominating format, but it MUST be LIVE & LOCAL, executed by heritage broadcasters (Howard was abberant). The poor slobs who were dictated FREE FM didn’t get the right formula from the brass. Dan Mason can fix all that and with a quickness.
