Imus apparently coming to WABC

At least according to the new york radio message board. If true my condolences to Ron Kuby and Curtis Sliwa who if not assigned to another daypart and are forced onto the unemployment line will have to find a way to salvage their lives and careers. On the one hand it'll mean no longer having to wake up at 3am for Curtis and Kuby but at the same time it'll mean waking up and having no place to go.

Curtis and Kuby are far more interesting than that ersatz "cowboy". This is too bad and clearly involved a corporate decision that went above and beyond the PD.

Let's hope C & K land safely in another daypart.

C&K would be great as a replacement for Grant and Ingraham. Grant's jumped the shark, and Ingraham's a dullard. Maybe they can dump Mark (the shrike) Levine.

But considering the station's programming philosophy, any slot outside drivetime doesn't count and doesn't deserve good air talent.

How ironic would it be if they ended up at WFAN! Boomer & Carton would be gone faster than you can say "David Lee Roth"!

Don't expect C&K to go very far at all. And none of this is happening without Boyce.
He never denied anything. And what Bornemann said exactly was that he wished Mr. Imus well, and that
WABC was happy with C&K.....all very true.

The opportunity to get Imus is a fantastic opportunity for WABC.

[size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt]Management at WABC (Citadel) must be weighing their potions well *IF* Imus replace Curtis & Kuby in AM Drive.

Although C&K may have twice the ratings Imus had, however, it was reported that Imus bought in more add revunue than Curtis & Kuby.

So the real story here is an in-effective sales department. Sad that so often great talent hit the road because of this. If a show has twice the ratings of another show, and it can't be sold properly, put the blame on either sales management or upper management who brought in sales management who can't get the job done. Citadel's stock is in the tank. Perhaps. Mr. Farid believes bringing Imus on will have an immediate impact.

good riddance to the repulsive Curtis and the meretricious persiflage of Kuby

Mediocrity on the radio: the happy demise of Curtis & Kuby

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even though I am not a fan of Imus's, I realize that Imus and his sidekicks have some talent. Word is out that Imus will be replacing the repulsive Curtis Sliwa and the overrated lawyer Kuby on WABC. I only hope this info is true.

Curtis Sliwa is an untalented, publicity-seeking punk who heads a bunch of thug-wannabees called the Guardian Angels. The organization is a joke, but Curtis has been able to parlay it into local celebrity and a full-time radio gig on a major station. Listening to Curtis is like listening to a wise-ass punk blabbering on next to you at your favorite watering hole. He can barely utter 1 sentence without 10 grammatical errors, yet WABC pawns him off as a political expert. What a joke!

Kuby is cut from the same cloth as Curtis. Long associated with a thoroughly overrated lawyer named William Kunstler, Kuby was willing to pounce at the 1st chance to get his ugly mug in the papers (see Long Island Railroad murders). Kuby has a basic knowledge of law, is not illiterate--so he's the "brain" on the show. Pleeezz!

My question: Why is there so much mediocrity on the radio?
;D

So, the station with the oldest listeners first re-hires the near-octigenarian who, on an hd radio can be heard wheezing slightly.

Now add the merely ancient sounding 67 year old Imus.

Why? Supposedly they'll bring in some fast bucks.

Doesn't this read like a company cashing in before the clock runs out?

I don't normally link to "that other board" but former WABC PD John Mainelli has some trenchant comments regarding WOR but equally pertinent to WABC, and most AM for that matter.

Uh I'm no fan of Kunstler primarily because my distaste for his clientele and his willingness to defend any guilty person and get them off. At the same time I recognize his ability to get criminals acquitted was unparalleled and as such was one of the greatest litigators of all time, equaled only by F. Lee Bailey, Clarence Darrow and Gerry Spence. Why do you say he was overrated?

Who knew Curtis and Kuby would ever be in the same boat as... country music!

I thought WOR had the oldest listeners... :D

Grant has so jumped the shark.

re Kunstler overrated:

First off, would a first-rate litigator hire Ron Kuby as his 2d chair?

These controversial lawyers make news, but where is the genius in Kunstler's career? So, he defended swine and got them off. The best litigators in New York work for Wachtel Rose & Lipton, a firm you probably never heard of.

Let's get real, Kunstler, Kuby, Cochran--all they ever wanted was publicity.

Do you always assume that "radical" lawyers who get mentioned in the newspaper are somehow talented?

No, they wouldn't. WFAN is losing some traction to ESPN 1050, so they want to correct that by going all sports.

And enough with "David Lee Roth" comparisons. Carton and Boomer are broadcasting professionals. DLR is not.
