IMUS IN BUFFALO?

Just wonderin'. Will any Buffalo area radio station sign up for the new "Imus In The Morning" show? It has never aired in this market. Maybe 1080, 1120, 1270, or 93.7, would be a good fit! Imagine the buzz this would cause!

Sorry, if this is in bad taste, but when I am up this early, I tend to think of the absurd! ::)

With stations like 92.9 (Jack) trying to do things cheaper and cheaper, It wouldn't surprise me if Imus were to suddenly pop up there.

While I am not familiar with the Buffalo market, I can tell you that any station wishing to air Imus in the Morning had better open their wallets because his program is not inexpensive.

Here in Rochester one station did carry Imus several years ago and from what I remember not only didn't the program do well in the ratings, but it did not last that long in the Rochester market.

Another thing to remember is that there are a number of inserts in the Imus program that would have to be made up with local content or commercials.

Personally I think it would less expensive for a station, either in Buffalo or Rochester, to hire local talent in the morning rather than spend money on a syndicated show like Imus.

Imus in Buffalo doesn't seem to be a workable proposition.

Since Imus is a Citadel-ABC "property," speculation would lead to one of the Citadel stations taking his show. 97 Rock? The morning show is said to be top five Persons 25-54 and #1 Men 25-54. Not likely.

The Edge? O&A reportedly are doing well in the station demo, primarily 18-34 felons. The nearly 70 year old Imus isn't in that demo. Negative.

Mix 104? It's a mommy-goes-to-the-mall station. Imus isn't even close to that demo. Don't hear it happening there.

WHLD and WBBF? They're brokered and making money. One's a daytimer, the other has a second rate signal. Why bring in Imus?

Now look at Entercom and Regent. Does anybody seriously think those two clusters are going to add money to Citadel's coffers by paying Imus' syndication fee? Not likely to happen on Buffalo.

Maybe WJJL, WLVL, WSPQ... about as likely as Imus going to WDCX... yeah, I'm kidding.

It's a bad time to syndicate, especially a cadavor like Imus, who still carries a lot of negative baggage:

Using data provided by Nielsen Monitor-Plus we see that notably missing from the first show were all but three of the top 30 Imus advertisers, based on 2006 spending on Imus' show at CBS sports WFAN. None of the top ten advertisers aired spots in the first show, with only Fuji Heavy Industries, the State of New York and Cablevision running spots during the debut. The 30 advertisers on the list combined to spend over $4 million dollars on Imus' show during 2006. The three who bought commercials on the Dec. 3 show represent only approximately $330,000 of that spending.

He said his Citadel-ABC deal was for five years because that's how long it would take "to get even with everybody." Wonder if the vindictive jerk even has five years in him... I'm talking about his career, not his life... but then again.

If KB were not an Entercom property I could see it running Imus, but I'm sure the Entercom regional brass see him as a potential siphon of audience away from WBEN, however modest. So scratch that.

The only other logical choice would be WECK once Dick Greene acquires and repositions it--but will he want to pay the cost, and will he be able to amortize it with less than full market coverage?

Just guessing, but I don't think you'll see Imus carried in either Buffalo or Rochester. Wouldn't surprise me if he surfaces again on WHEN in Syracuse, which carried him up until the April debacle and probably needs him again...but that's the closest he's likely to get to western NY.

Maybe on WFBL. That would put them on the map.

After getting rid of Kane, Dino, Cronin, and Pete Kennedy, along with some off-air staff, it is hard to imagine Entercom spending money to bring Imus to their cluster of stations. Also Clear Channel isn't about to shell out big bucks for the I-Man either. The smaller market stations surrounding Rochester and Buffalo can't afford what Imus demands. So I join the chorus of those who believe that you won't be hearing Imus on any stations in our area.

Buffalo doesn't need Imus.
Bad enough we have the useless morning shows we have (97 Crock, Thread and Gaygun, etc...).

Oh I forgot WBEN's garbage "whine show" hosts...

Gee, Jammer, you'd better catch up. "Thread and Gaygun" haven't been on mornings for quite a while. We have "Dopie and Agony" instead, with "Thread and Gaygun" moved to PM drive - where they're killing, incidently.
