Imus In Cincy???

HI to all the radio GURUs inside 275. As a novice I'd like to ask if anyone thinks there is room in our crowded CC-heavy market for IMUS? I thought possibly the new 94.1 as he had "A LOT" of live music acts and interveiws the last 10 years or so,,,,something the "Morning Joe" MSNBC replacement badily lacks. Any thoughts? Phil in MtH.

Imus was on Cincinnati radio back in the late 90's on WUBE-AM 1230. It was known as the very creative "Bob2" at the time.
By the way, is he back in radio?

Well I guess your not really BACK IN RADIO until your really BACK IN RADIO! But the recent posts on this site (combined with statements from Curtis Swilia on Cunningham's show this afternoon and Bo Deitl / Kinky Friedman on Morning Joe-MSNBC hinting about the return) Imus will probably be back soon. My question is basically if there is room in the Cincinnati morning drive market for his show? He started out in Cincy on 1160 BOB, was moved to 1230 BOB II when 1160 went sports, dropped by the Buzz switchover and eventually picked up on 910 WPFB. Not to run down anybody's work but 1160 and 1230 resembled the old "KIDSWORLD" tv news production and 910's signal strenght seems to vary with the tradewinds!
So, could Imus do well in the Cincy mkt with the full faith and credit of the CC Government? My thought is that since 94.1 wants to go after a more edgey "94.9 the Sound" listner and they seem to be looking for their own voice, could Imus and 94.1 work? Citadel-ABC and CC have worked together in the past,,,,,,what do you all think?

Well, since I don't believe that Imus is going to change very much when he comes back to radio in December in New York then from the days when I used to push the buttons for his show on "kidsworld" 1230 bob2 ;D *don't worry, no offense taken* I don't believe that Imus would work on FM in Cincinnati. Then again, quoting the late great Jack Fogerty,"I may be wrong, but it seems to me......" (I hope I spelled his name correctly). Since I haven't been in Cincinnati for the past seven years, I could be way off base....and I usually am. :D

Imus didn't do well on 1160 WBOB, so AM/FM moved his show to 1230 BOB2. 1160 WBOB replaced Imus with Bob Trumpy, which did better since his show focused on local sports and not politics. I doubt his show will be picked up in Cincinnati again when he returns. 96.5 would be the logical station but since they have the 2 angry guys now in morning drive, he's not going there.

Imus would be better than the guys that do morning drive on 1450 WMOH now. Why not "The Sound"? They were looking for a morning show last year...

Imus does well in the northeast beacuse he appeals to the intellegensia in those markets.

Not much appeal in the midwest. Many people never even heard of him until the Rutgers thing.

Imus doesn't do well in the Midwest? Gee, I think he was doing fantastic at WGAR-AM in Cleveland back in 1970 or 71 when New York City came a courtin' and wooed him away. And he was doing OK at WHK in the mid 80's when he came back for a while. Does that mean Cleveland has more intelligent people then Cincy?

I think that way back when 1160 BOB rolled out Imus (1994-95 or so?) they did a fairly strong promo/billboard campaign. Thats how I got hooked and alot of people got hooked. Shortly after this push, MSNBC picked up his show and he really gained steam (ie, The Autobody Express, his Newsweek cover, the GRILLING of Pres Clinton at the National Press Club dinner). But after shifting to 1230 BOB2 or 910PFB there really wasn't AD support. Furthermore, Imus's lack of small market affaliate support didn't help his own cause! Still I beleive he could work well here given some promo and the right venue. I dont listen to 94.9 the Sound or know their current drivetime status but they're sure not afraid of billboard ad space,,,,,

I think Imus was fired for all the wrong reasons, but having passed by his MSNBC simulcast he isn't all that interesting either. We didn't get his radio show here in Los Angeles unless you count the 1400 watter in Loma Linda, your 910 in Middletown covers more listeners. What I got from watching him on TV was that they should have had a nurse and an EMT on the sidelines to assure that he was still breathing.

There are no viable stations in any major market that would benefit from having him in the lineup, except maybe New York where he is a museum piece to be revered, like Gary Owens is here. A small signal rim shot station might get some bragging rights though because of the name, so if he appears expect that he won't be an easy catch in the city.

I apologize, YEKIMI.

You're right. 36 freaking years ago, when there wasn't naerly as much competition, he did well on WGAR as a LOCAL jock.

And, 22 freaking years ago, he did OK in the market where he used to be a local jock.

Based on the fact that he did well in ONE market a long time ago, you are correct and I am wrong.

NOT!

His numbers were negligible overall in the Midwest. His appeal just isn't that great beyond the Northeast.

Well, you are right about one thing: Imus' ratings are NOT big in ANY market.

But that is not why Imus is successful.

He is a money machine. Advertisers--at least before the latest debacle--pay huge dollars to be in his show. The company that has his syndication will bill millions more than their costs. Even the smaller markets that carry him can find those unique clients that will buy because it is Imus.
