IMUS IN THE BORING

What seems to be lost on so many, is that IMUS was a NYC institution.

That's New York City, not Dallas, not Detroit, not Chicago, not L.A., etc.

And he wasn't even that big in NY anymore. I cannot imagine why these execs think he is suddenly going to explode in syndication popularity at the age of 67. I actually heard one guy commenting on how an L.A. station may pick up the show because Imus does have a history in SoCal. Huh? You mean the brief stint in Palmdale in 1967? This is how ignorantly ga-ga people are over this.

I know, I know, the whole "nappy headed ho" thing will get Imus all this attention. Well guess what: first, he's not going to be as edgy(?) as he was before, AND after the newness or novelty wears off, people will realize that he's kinda boring. Wait 'til he rolls that first country tune. What a treat.

So, you have a bunch of large and major market outlets putting all their morning drive eggs in the Imus basket, which will only add to the decline that made them hastily consider this foolhardy move in the first place.

Dumb and short-sighted. It must be radio.

It's about 10 after 6 and I'm hearing a twangy country song during the first 10 mintues of the IMUS show.

I've never responded to one of my OWN posts before, but I couldn't pass this up. And no, it was NOT a treat!

There's a reason NYC is one of the few major cities WITHOUT a country station.

I got up early to hear the premiere, and he stumbled through a few introductions of people I have never heard of. He spoke in a monotone. Then they turn the show over to Grandpa Jones, or some other hillbilly twang singer. Imus is getting even with us, I fear.

CM,

Read your own words again.

Yes, the first 30 minutes were stiff, but now at 7:30 est, he's got great guests lined up and is now interviewing Sen. John McCain. Carville, Matlin and Bill Clinton next hour.

Oh, I see. NYC SHOULD have a country station, huh?

All I can tell you is I have yet to trun into any NYer who laments there being no country station to listen to. You are either NOT from the tri-state area, or have an Urban Cowboy fixation.

Both points remain intact and uncompromised.

And by the way, do you REALLY believe Imus is going to have big, strong lineups of guests every day? Or is the show going to just be a neutered version of the previously unremarkable snoozefest.
