Imus Is Not Alone. Boston Has Jay Severin on WTKK. Just "AXE" Him !!

C

Casablanca

Guest
In Boston on WTKK - a Greater Media, Inc. outlet they employ a talk show host named Jay Severin [ his national talk radio show failed and he is now back in Boston].

Last month, the new Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, who is an African-American appeared on the talk show just preceding Jay Severin with a monthly call-in session called "Ask The Governor."

When Jay Severin [ whose real name is John Severino] came on an hour later he mocked the Governor whose politics he does not like [Severin predicted the woman Lt. Governor, Kerry Murphy-Healy who is a Republican would win in a landslide. Murphy- Healy lost in a landslide].

Jay Severin called the program "AXE the Governor" as if Governor Patrick who is Milton Academy and Harvard College/Law School educated pronounced the word "ask" in the misplaced diction and resulting pronounciation that some African-American do.

It was a direct and deliberate racial slur on the part of Jay Severin meant to demean the first African-American Governor of Massachusetts.

Unlike Don Imus's remark which was just stupid and ignorant, Jay Severin's remark...which he has repeated on a regular basis when speaking of Governor Deval Patrick... was a specifically charged racial slur meant to demean the Governor.

Nothing happened to Jay Severin. The management of Greater Media, Inc. has even failed to acknowledge Jay Severin's racial slur let alone suspend or fire him.

Makes one wonder if there is a double standard. If you make a stupid and ignorant remark as Imus did you get suspended or fired but if you make a pointed and direct racial slur as Jay Severin did with "AXE" the Governor nothing happens.

Time for Greater Media to be fair and take action against Jay Severin for his pointely bigotted remarks.

I hopre the Rev. Al Sharpton reads this post or that someone will pass it on to him. Racism is rampant across the radio dial - across the country.

Mancow you better clean up your show ! same go's for Mr Facter .

"It was a direct and deliberate racial slur on the part of Jay Severin"

Whoever this Jay (whatever) character is, there is one major difference with his vs. Imus' remarks: It's long been established, including with legal precedent that public figures are pretty much fair game for anything short of outright libel.

School atheletes are not public figures. That is where Imus crossed the line.

Re: "AXE the Governor", All of my current friends are either Mexican or Filipino nationals, understandably, they all apeak with accents. There is NO excuse for anyone born in this country and of American parents to say "I wanna axe you sonfin" - or any of the other crude slang that I hear daily.

Using "axe" you will never be taken very seriously and there will allways be some rude individual to poke fun at you.

"Makes one wonder if there is a double standard."

As a consequence of my business, I have had to audition hundreds of rap/hip-hop cds over the last 21 years, nothing that some shock jock could legally say over the airwaves compares to what I hear on these recordings.

So, yes, there is a double standard, just not the one you were thinking of.

Did he state that, or is that your opinion? From your description it sounds like it could just as easily have been that he was hoping the Governor would get fired (ie axed).

I thank Casablanca for noting what is obvious to me--but rarely noted on these boards--that racism is in fact rampant on the radio dial--much of it on conservative talk radio. Shame on ALL who perpetrate it.

Bravo Casablanca!
If there were more decent human beings like Casablanca then vermin like severin would not be able to pollute the airwaves... Sadly, as demonstrated on this board there are far too many race baiting apologists for severin who embrace hate radio as long as they are not the targeted group.. true cowardice for sure...
Some week back I listened as severin had a caller ask him what he meant by "axe the governor" (and um he certainly was NOT meaning to "get rid of" the Gov Partrick)..
Severin stated he was just being a "bit of a wise ass" and poking a bit of fun at african americans who do not pronounce some words "correctly"...He was then challenged on what that had to do with Patrick, at which time severin responded.. "nothing in fact I find the Gov to be quite eloquent and articulate and added that he attended the same school as the Gov." He also added that he makes fun of bush's texas accent" Apples and oranges.. Severin had in the past made fun of bushs' mispronouciation of words but never a jab at his race... Obviously Severin was making an obvious racist jab at Gov Patrick's race(esp since Gov Patrick does not speak in that way)..... lets not keep making excuses for this racist twit who thinks nothing of referring to Mexicans as "wetbacks"...

I don't think Severin needs to play around with discussing how Deval pronounces the word 'Ask.' He should just cut to the chase and paint the reality: Deval is an elitist full-of-himself governor who wasn't (and never will be) 'ready' for the corner office. He figured since he'd be surrounded by like-minded elitist idealogues (read: 'pals') he could play around with his curtains, his Cadillac, his helicopter, and feed his wife $72,000 per annum that she doesn't need (do the math on how many 'needy' and 'low income' people that might help out...the very people off whose backs Deville got elected in the FIRST place.)

No, Severin is wrong with the 'Axe' humor. Better to be dead serious and tell the truth: Deville is a crappy governor even though he's surrounded by political allies. How DUMB can he be to screw it all up with things handed to him on a silver platter?

You live in New Hampshire. What do you care. A recent survey showed that Governor Deval Patrick is supported by 63% of the Massachusetts electorate. Unlike New Hampshire, we don't let cows vote...or marry... ;) Sorry, cheap shot.

What...a BOSTON GLOBE survey or something? Yeah, let's all bow down to THAT 'esteemed' publication. I'm sure you already do, but readership statistics, circulation numbers, and advertising revenue--which all are plummeting there--point out what the populace thinks of that rag. Nothing is finer than seeing pink slips at the pink ship. The Globe will cease to publish a newspaper in five years or less, just like Big Daddy, The New York Times.

But yet when Dave Chappelle played the white news reporter with his voice pitched up to immitate a "white person", he was rewarded with a $50 Million contract!! What's the difference?

I know, that wasn't the only bit that made Chappelle's show successful, but Severin's axe and Imus' ho comments aren't their entire schtick either.

Jay Severin is a bigot !!! Stop making excuses for him.
This clown won't even admit to his own heritage. He says he is Scotish or something when his real name is SEVERINO. Frankly, being of Italian decent has thousands of more years to offer in culture and history than any Anglo-Saxon heritage but it is just further evidence of the fact of Severin's own insecurity. He is not happy with who he is and therefore he has to claim to be something he isn't and tear down other individuals of other ethnic and racial backgrounds to make himself seem superior at least in his own small mind.

Again, Jay Severin is a bigot.

If this board has such little influence in this town why do so many radio suits and talent read it?
As the late, great Dean of talk radio, Jerry Williams, used to say 'somtimes you need to turn on the light and watch the cockroaches scurry.'
All some of us are doing is 'turning on the light'. Whether anyone wishes to see anything after that is up to them - not this poster or anyone else.

It's fun watching people get angry over Severin. All they can do is hammer him on message boards. You hold NO sway over whether he comes or goes. In fact, the more angry people get the better he and the station like it...it proves he's being listened to. Now, Air America is a GREAT story. Those criminal Lib talkers just went belly-up. They loaded their own gun and shot themselves with it!

It's also fun watching some tool with a screen name of 'casablanca' trying to 'persuade' others to stop listening to Jay, or stop making excuses for him. Yeah, let's all bow down and obey 'casablanca.' LOL. You have NO sway. You have NO power. You have NO influence. You are a poster on a message board. THAT'S IT! get used to it! Severin will continue to ride ;D
