In Boston on WTKK - a Greater Media, Inc. outlet they employ a talk show host named Jay Severin [ his national talk radio show failed and he is now back in Boston].
Last month, the new Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, who is an African-American appeared on the talk show just preceding Jay Severin with a monthly call-in session called "Ask The Governor."
When Jay Severin [ whose real name is John Severino] came on an hour later he mocked the Governor whose politics he does not like [Severin predicted the woman Lt. Governor, Kerry Murphy-Healy who is a Republican would win in a landslide. Murphy- Healy lost in a landslide].
Jay Severin called the program "AXE the Governor" as if Governor Patrick who is Milton Academy and Harvard College/Law School educated pronounced the word "ask" in the misplaced diction and resulting pronounciation that some African-American do.
It was a direct and deliberate racial slur on the part of Jay Severin meant to demean the first African-American Governor of Massachusetts.
Unlike Don Imus's remark which was just stupid and ignorant, Jay Severin's remark...which he has repeated on a regular basis when speaking of Governor Deval Patrick... was a specifically charged racial slur meant to demean the Governor.
Nothing happened to Jay Severin. The management of Greater Media, Inc. has even failed to acknowledge Jay Severin's racial slur let alone suspend or fire him.
Makes one wonder if there is a double standard. If you make a stupid and ignorant remark as Imus did you get suspended or fired but if you make a pointed and direct racial slur as Jay Severin did with "AXE" the Governor nothing happens.
Time for Greater Media to be fair and take action against Jay Severin for his pointely bigotted remarks.
I hopre the Rev. Al Sharpton reads this post or that someone will pass it on to him. Racism is rampant across the radio dial - across the country.
