IMUS MLK Show

Imus spent 27% of his show on this topic. He also mixed in some religious sermon from one of his friends that passed away. He let the new talent give some African American perspective without losing the interest of his core demo. I think is was a happy medium compared to WOR who only devoted about 7% and WBAI covering 89% of the total airtime during morning drive. I was happy so hear new material and not the usual recorded speeches and stuff they always run on this day. The older demo has heard it already enough times. I think even Al Sharpton would be pleased and may even have been listening- (You never know)!!

Will somebody please tell that fossilized nitwit that he is supposed to be FUNNY!!
I could hear the sounds of his remaining 17 listeners turning the dial today in search of something mildly amusing.
This is like watching Willie Mays in 1973 letting fly balls drop all over Shea.Just pathetic.

I heard it. I've heard it before and it wears me out more each year. At least he didn't take the day off like he has in the past. But then again, I probably would have listened to the whole show if Mark Simone was subbing. This MLK holiday I don't get anyway. He is deified like no other person. It seems to me like another opportunity to shove more identity politics down our national throat. The media makes a bigger deal over him than the Forefathers. MLK did say some neat things, but bigger than George, John, Tom, James, Alex and Ben. I think not!
For whatever reason, I get the impression that Imus feels that he can wear his limo-lib upper east side stripes loud and proud all year long for this one day deviation on his program. I don't seem to remember him getting all wrapped up in this MLK stuff years ago on WNBC. I guess he felt that since the FAN was the Knicks station by doing this stunt he could get real with the hoodies who couldn't afford the good seats. I really don't get any pleasure getting on the I-Man's case...but Donnie, get your act together and entertain.

You've got it. That's exactly what it's all about. As a black who watched this whole thing evolve, I can tell you that it would never have come about if whites weren't fearful of potential violence. The riots and mayhem of the 1960s-70s (those burning neighborhoods) were still fresh in the minds of nervous members of Congress, who decided to take what appeared to be the safe, easy way out.

And you're right. How could there be a day dedicated to anyone before Jefferson, Madison and Franklin? We all know why this happened.
