Imus - no guts

Why doesn't Don Imus stand behind his remarks and show some balls? Something like, "yes, I said nappy headed hos and so what?" Imus' must have his testicles in a lockbox for him to go begging forgiveness from Al Sharpton.

Re: Imus - no balls

Wow whhat a completely clueless thread. Why doesnt he say "yeah i said it so what"?

BECAUSE HE DOESNT WANT TO LOSE:

A. His adverisers

B, More importantly his gig.

C. IF A should occur, expect B.

Can you really be THAT clueless? and by the way, what he said about "nappy headed hoes" was not as offensive as the reference to the "Jiggaboos"; and his defense? " OH I heard it in a Spike Lee movie"

Get serious, he stepped on his d**k one time too many.

Re: Imus - no balls

While I agree that IMUS went way over the line with last week's comments, I am concerned about who is "making the rules". I think it is very troubling to see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson become judges aobut what can and cannot be said over our airwaves. To insist that our broadcasters should never say anything that others might find offensive, while politically correct, will lead to radio shows with an edge and to the homoginization of discussion. IMUS was just being IMUS, he happened to step on one of the third rails of PC speak. He should have known that only black hip hop "artists" are allowed to use provacative language.

Re: Imus - no balls

I'm going to chalk it up to CBS Radio being ultra paranoid. They've gotten their butts kicked several times over the last few years (St. Patrick's Cathedral and The Super Bowl) and when a controversy comes up The Suits go into full blown panic mode.

When Imus went on Sharpton's show he ALLOWED Sharpton to set the standard so don't blame Sharpton. This all the more makes Imus look like the fool. He should have kept his mouth shut, hired spin doctors, publicists and lawyers to do it for him. Now, he's dug a grave he won't be able to get out of. What an idiot!

Re: Imus - no balls

As mostB accurately pointed out, Imus went willingly to Sharpton's show--Sharpton has no legal power to compel his attendance.

In a situation like this, it certainly makes an apology seem more genuine and heartfelt, if it is made in a "black" forum. Yes, as I mentioned in another post, Sharpton does carry some serious baggage, and he still needs to make an apology to the man he falsely accused in the Brawley case. However, as I also pointed out, Al also happens to be the host of what is probably the largest black-oriented radio talk show in the nation (even though it is not carried in New York). He is also picking his words and causes more carefully these days, and he's been an articulate, effective, and responsible advocate for minority group members who have been victims in certain situations. Some who repeatedly cite his faults (and I have been one of those) have also failed to give him credit when it's due.

Re: Imus - no balls

The Imus comment was nasty, however, Mr. Sharpton and company should listen to rap material. The "songs" and videos portray women in a very bad manner. The brilliant Dave Chappelle makes Imus' comment appear tame in some of his comedy. Do you really feel there would have been such an uproar had Imus made a quip about Italians, Greeks, or any other group? Let's stop sending people to "Jimmy The Greek hell" at the advice of Sharpton or Jackson. Those gentleman need to start at home with the lifestyle of many of their race and the "music" that young people are listening to. Clean up your own backyard first.

Finally, common sense!

If Imus had said something along those lines and let it go at that, he ultimately wouldn't have lost his advertisers or gig...but he has to do the ridiculous PC "I'm sorry" tour. The only thing left now is the obiligatory trip to rehab.

black rap artists offend black and white women, do the record labels stop that??Hell no.here's what will happen Imus will make a contribution to Rutgers and it will all just go away like magic.Follow the money.Black comedians offend people of all races, do they fire the,.Hey if all Sharpton has to do is harp on this everday, well by God civil rights in America is better than we thought..Mostb 1, you're a idiot not Imus.Sharpton and Jackson are 2 of the biggest race bigots in america.Let them enjoy their brief fame, then Jessie can continue cheating on his wife, while claiming to be a man of God.Hey they'll be alot of preachers in Hell..

Imus doesn't strike me as a guy who would apologize just for the sake of apologizing. He's not known for being a "pleaser and appeaser."

So perhaps it's worth considering the following possibility:

Imus genuinely believes what he said was stupid, actually regrets saying it and is sincerely apologizing for it.

To borrow from Freud, sometimes an apology is just an apology.

Cutting and pasting THE SAME responses in each thread on this subject? Pathetic.

Imus went to SHARPTON so obviously he thinks he's the key to saving his careeer. Don't blame Sharpton or any other black leader. Imus is a bigot. He has a national platform where he's making millions for companies to be a bigot. It's time to end that.

The ONLY honorable thing Don Imus can do, aside from a personal apology to the Rutgers family, is to RESIGN in disgrace and go away and shut up.

The last four words of your post.take them and run with it.GO AWAY AND SHUT UP.

I'm curious: what would Imus' resignation or termination result in? Feelings of euphoria for you? It appears that you are taking an incredible amount of personal satisfaction from this situation.

In no way do I defend Imus' or McGuirk's comments, nor do I defend those who condone them as "comedy".

What I do defend is Imus' right and responsibility to publicly put his tail between his legs and apologize. Not to Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Julian Bond or any individual with an agenda, but to the people he offended. Walking into the proverbial "lion's cage" that was Sharpton's show showed a lot of character that lesser men would never have mustered.

Overlooked is the response from Rutgers' basketball coach Vivian Stringer and her players. Perhaps all the major players in this situation should look at these ladies and learn a lesson.

What a lot of you are failing to realize is that these are college students, yes somebodys children. They didn't do anything to deserve this attack. They attend college and play basketball. Thats it.

Imus is a well paid professional. He should know better. He took a chance, and now he has to pay. This isn't the first time for him. How about when he called Gwen Ifill of PBS a maid covering the White House?

Sharpton and Jackson did not make the rules. Its called common decency!

Anybody who defends him is also a bigot.

I am probably going to get a lot of flack for this comment, but I am going to say it anyway. How is using the phrase, "Nappy Headed Ho's" necessarily a racist statement? I admit it is insulting, but racist I don't know. No disrespect to any of the ladies at on the Rutgers team, but saying someone's hair is nappy isn't necessarily a "racist" comment. I am also not saying that the any of the ladies hair is "nappy." All the word Nappy means is that a person's hair is unkept. If I said a non-black person's hair was stringy or mangy, would I be a racist? It would be insulting, not necessarily racist.
I am in no way defending Imus or what he said, because that isn't a professional thing to say on the air. But should such an uproar be made about this. To me, it is only making Imus more popular. People who have never heard of him before not know who he is because of this comment. I just think that certain indivdiduals are just giving him MORE popularity over some stupid remark.

Don't try to deflect away from the subject by trying to turn this into something personal against me. That just makes you look pathetic.

Imus has not apologized. Look at way he has said it. He's really only sorry for being caught doing it. He has a long string of racial slurs. This is not a FIRST incident.

Imus showed ZERO character going to Sharpton's show. It showed he's a fool that doesn't understand how to control the growing outrage against his racist comments. I've never seen anyone play as "bad" a game as he has over this entire incident. He's an old man trying to save his job. That's all.

Tell me if Limbaugh or Jimmy the Greek (or I'll be happy to name many others) said something as bad as what Imus said AND GOT AWAY WITH IT on their tv gigs? They lost their jobs and he must lose his. This is NOT a one time incident.

Any BROADCAST company using the PUBLIC airwaves that supports this kind of behavior on the air, needs to pay and pay dearly for its support racism. Imus is a bigot. If they want to frame his show as "The BIgot Morning Show", so be it. But you are going to pay a price in the marketplace for this kind of vile PERSONALIZED trash talk against women and minorities. And if he continues on the air, just watch for lawsuits of all kinds both against him and the broacast companies that would continue to support him. HE MUST GO.

Oh please. Of all the posts I've seen yours is the most naive.

Calling a black female a whore by referring to what kind of hair they have? Calling a young collage student a whore? You're asking what is wrong with that? It's sick just to see someone that could post something that naive.

It isn't making Imus popular. All it's doing is digging his grave even faster.

Get real.

Someone once told me to "not get into a pissing contest with a prick". I think I'll heed those words. My opinion has been noted.

Then I guess you won't be getting into a contest with Imus, will you?

Interesting how free speech only works in one direction-:) Remember Sharpton's comments in the past about "cracker rednecks"? Not much out of that. Always something for our American public, and the media to get it's shorts in a knot over. Something new every week. Who gives a s--t?
