Imus on WBAP?

If the rumors of an Imus comeback via Citadel's WABC are true, will the I-man be on WBAP starting next month? Would love to hear him leading up to the presidential election.

Imus may bring in some decent numbers for WBAP, but I think they're happy with their AM lineup now...

Imus doing mornings on a big stick in Dallas would wreak havoc on the 45 to death Male demos.

Three books and he would be number one with those old white guys. I guess CBS would take it on the chin with KLUV and KRLD getting a lot of their energy from that group.

The left leaning I-man would stick out like a raisin in grits in that line-up. On the other hand maybe BAP would be the right place for his tired insults and Nixon parodies.

Works for Hal Jay, doesn't it?

What about putting Imus on ESPN 103.3? He was the morning drive guy on New York City's WFAN for many years.

Imus doing crosstalk with Mark Davis... interesting.

I was so right there on this post. Can you imagine the collision of banter that would be? Good ol' boy with...well, Mark? Good times indeed. And about what about the morning BAP welcome wagon now?

;D

Eye, besides the fact that ESPN isn't part of Citadel, in order to call yourself "ESPN Radio", stations MUST carry the Mike & Mike show in morning drive. That's the only reason 103.3 doesn't do a local show in that time slot.

Thanks for the clarification on ESPN 103.3.
I can't imagine that WBAP would make a change.
Imus & KSCS don't mix.
What's left - The Twister?

Did I miss something? Imus HAS already been in Dallas on a full stick (990 in 2004, 1150 in 2001 and 1190 in 1996-98) and with negligible results. For me, the show's unlistenable...kinda like an audio version of the mumblings of the late "televangelist" Dr. Gene Scott. Too many inside references, too "Yankee" for southwestern tastes, and WAY too much bitterness and heaviness for first thing in the morning. I don't think he'd play any better in DFW now than he did a few years ago, even with proper promotion (which, really, 1190 and the others seldom did.) Just because he's back in the news lately doesn't mean his show's going to be any better or more popular or better received than before.

None of those are full sticks. And none were promoted.

Was Howard too yankee? No. And Imus has New Mexico connections with his brother who sells salsa, if I remember that correctly. He won't come across as a yank.

Inside references are part of every successful radio show.

I'm not a fan of bitterness either. I'll grant you that one.

50,000 watts on 1190 AM is not a "full stick" ??? Granted their nighttime pattern leaves a lot to be desired, but the daytime pattern is a blowtorch, not to mention that 1190 was at one time (a LONG time ago) number one in the market for a couple of DECADES...

1190 is for sale for around $10 million. Might someone buy it and put something like Imus on in the morning...or could Citadel lease time on the station like ABC did for ESPN playoff games?...my understanding is the lease for 1190 is $50,000 per month.

...anyone...?

Imus in the morning on WBAP would be a terrible mistake. I doubt they will go that way. Especially with two other stations in the market that they own needing help. The other mistake (sorry Steve) would be leasing the 1190 frequency for 50 grand a month. "The giant sucking sound" that H.Ross Perot described in his Presidential bid was inspired by the pattern switch on KLIF at sundown. Anybody who ever pressed that black key on the transmitter remote control that said "lower" knows what I am talking about.

You know what I'm going to say to that. 1190 is an east-west signal. And today you need to hit the I-35 corridor north and south. So even though 1190 is 50k watts, it's not a premium stick.

My main point is that, like Howard on KEGL the first time around, Imus on a station like WBAP would go through the roof in the 45 to death male demos. He's the perfect example of an old white guy in Dallas. He has no understanding of why he can't say anything racist he wants, as long as a black rapper has said it first.

Gotta call you on that remark EbolaMonkey.

Imus is hardly the perfect example of the old white guy in Dallas. That remark is more a reflection of your own attitude.

Also, Imus' roots in New Mexico run a heck of a lot deeper than his heartbeat-from-homeless brother. He has a working ranch of thousands of acres outside of Ribera, NM (uuuh, it's called wikipedia buddy).

Considering 990 was offered for around $10 mil, and their nighttime output is still around 700 watts, right? 1190's a steal for $10 mil, and would make a lot of sense for Frishberg and company to put BizRadio there...since the station keys in on that 6AM-6PM businessman hours, AND is wanting to cover Fort Worth (that's a scenario where the east-west pattern would work.)

Let's call it "K-L-Y-F" (said quickly, you'd get the desired effect. Said slowly, it'd sound like a Baba Wawa speech impediment.)

PLUS what a cool place it'd be, to move "The Hi-Fi Club" to and have Steve Eberhart come by every week to play his KLIF-1190 airchecks over their ORIGINAL frequency!!! ;D

If I had $10 mil laying around, you can bet I'd buy it just to play with it and program it the way it once was. Listenership wouldn't even be an issue...but surely it'd have a few folks exclaiming, "Great Googa Mooga!"

Jazz. Real jazz. Anyone? Anyone? Cumeless? Citadel? CB...well, nevermind. ;)

I should have said his sense of humor fits perfectly with those of old white guys in Dallas. Do you still disagree?
