The rumors seem to be starting to gain credibility -- the NYPost had an article today speculating that Imus will be coming back to the FAN

How about MSNBC? I want video of that keelover.

Can't he just go away?
Or is the radio business that hard up for talent?

Tha twould be great. Radio has been lakcing since he left. We need some decent conversation back - decent meaning a little close to the edge.

I'll believe it when I see (or in this case hear it).

It's highly doubtful that WFAN and especially MSNBC will bring Imus back. Why? All that would accomplish is to reinvigorate Al Sharpton, allowing him and Jesse Jackson a public pulpit to claim that CBS and NBC management are not only insensitive but hypocrites when it comes to taking a stand involving Imus' comments made about the women's college basketball team.

Another reason you won't see the return of the "I-Man" is because sponsors bailed on him faster than the ink dried on legal papers allowing Scooter Libby a get-out-of-jail-free-card.

MSBNC recently announced that "Morning Joe" will be the replacement for Imus on that (so-called) news network. As for WFAN, I don't think they want Sharpton & Company picketing outside of their station protesting the return of Imus. Another thing to take into consideration is that Imus lost his affiliates when he got fired. Those stations have since replaced the Imus program with either local or other syndicated shows.

Personally, despite what the Post claims, I think all these “Imus returning” stories are just wishful thinking on the part of die-hard fans. Imus certainly isn't going to Sirus, especially if Howard Stern has anything to say about it. Plus an Imus show on satellite radio might cause some problems for the proposed merger between XM and Sirius.

Don Imus' career is radio is finished. He lasted longer than most people in broadcasting.
Let him count his millions in the bank and enjoy his golden years and family.

The NY Post article sites messages on this website as its source for the speculation about Imus' return. This board, in turn, sites the NY Post as the source for the credibility of the rumors. I think we're going in circles.

GreatCalloftheNE: This board was NOT the source of the rumors. Someone heard Mike Francesa and Charles McCord make some cryptic comments during the 20th anniversary show on Friday 6/29 and posted what was said on the New York Radio Message Board. The New York Post apparently read this post, dug deeper and published a story. That story is now being referenced here on Radio-Info.

You're absolutely right. I mistakenly referenced this board (radio-info.com) when I meant the NYRMB.

After all of this time, WFAN cannot figure out how to replace Imus. In the program postition, you know at any time a host could buy the big one and you will need a replacement. WFAN should have had a replacement process in place. The fact that they still do not have that, is a good indication that Imus will be back. At his age, why would he want it? But he may do it anyhow.
