IMUS/SID ROSENBERG CONNECTION

Anyone else wonder if the heat that Imus is feeling will also be trickling down to Sid Rosenberg who was on the air with Imus when he launched into his racist comments last wek. If you listen to the whole segment, it was Rosenberg who started off the segment as part of his sports report - Imus and his producer McGuirk took it from there. But if you listen closely, you can hear Rosenberg agreeing with Imus - before and after the soundbites that most of the media are playing.

Given Rosenberg's history of repeated insensitive remarks (Serena Williams, Kylie Minogue among others), wonder if the braintrust at WAXY will keep him on the air - and wondering if his sponsors will stay with him.

Sid has already paid heavily for his statements he made earlier in his career, and these days he is doing a GREAT job on the ticket. Imus made the statement, not Sid, it was in poor taste to be sure, but I feel that Sid should be held accountable for nothing, he did nothing but what he was hired to do up there. Don's gonna pop up on satellite radio, live long and prosper, and thats gonna turn a whole new generation onto that medium, and as a broadcaster that concerns me. Keep your eyes on the prize Sid, its all good

Twinsfan,
Let me suggest that you read the whole transcipt. I guess saying that the Rutgers Basketball Team looking more like the Toronto Raptors than a women's basketball team is good, wholesome humor, huh? Wonder if you think that Imus isn't regretting putting Sid back on his show...bad things just seem to follow wherever he goes.

Don't give Sid much more time down here before he implodes, either through this episode or some other racist statement he will make!!!

Are you certain that WAS Sid who made the Raptors remark? Thought it was McQuirk <sp?>, the producer.

And what about Neil Rogers? How long has he been calling U-M's sports teams the "Hurri-coons." You think anyone is going to go after him?
PLus one could argue he has a "history"...remember a couple of years back when there was a big to-do about a Condoleeza Rice bit tjhat Beaseley was pressured in yanking? I'm not disrespecting Neil, I'm just wondering if he's got a bullseye on him.

Yes it was Sid that made the Toronto Raptors remark - it's in the transcript. Not condoning Neil Rogers or anyone else who abuses the public airwaves under the guise of humor/entertainment. Imus got what he deserved - something tells me Sid is not gong to get off the hook too easily either.
I have heard Jesse Jackson say he's next on the list - and I'll bet some of Sid's local sponsors may drop him.

Great. Let's have nice, pleasant, polite and boring discussions of the serious issues of the day. That'll be real effective use of the "public airwaves"...of course, no one will be listening because they're bored or have been lulled to sleep.

I have a feeling this thread is going to get moved to "Off The Air" so consider this my last post on the issue -

I am not defending Don Imus's - or Sid's - stupid remarks. I am, however, very concerned about what this who procoess can mean for talk radio - even music radio with personalities - in the future...

1) It's now clear that this has become not about right or wrong, rather right and left. And that's frightening. Media Matters, the organization which is getting credit for fanning the flames on the Imus thing, now has a list of other talk personalities who they claim deserve the same fate. Go to their web site. Interesting it's all "conservative" hosts. What about Randi Rhodes, Lionel, Mike Malloy or Neil Rogers, who have done their share of making fun of people over the years, sometimes in cruel ways. Why aren't they targeted? Can't win the hearts and minds with progressive talk, so let's just shut the other guys down. Hey, if a group wants to sanitize the airwaves, it's their right to try, but doing it selectively will only create more strife and division.

2) Again - I am not defending what Imus et al said. But how far is this going to go? Media Matters claims one of Glenn Beck's heinous crimes against the people is he called Rosie "a fat witch." Now THAT's an outrageous observation! What if they start going after Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo - because someone finds the "phone tap" demeaning to stupid people? Or the d.j.'s on 93Rock because they are always talking about drinking and partying and what a terrible influence this is on the young people. Am I taking this to the extreme? Maybe so. But consider.....

3) Is this another knife into "terrestrial" radio. JUst like after the Janet Jackson incident, radio watered itself down. It was a little less edgey? A little less willing to take a chance? Some good performers left free radio for satellite. Willl this incident cause a further exodus. As someone who loves talk adio - and yes, I get pissed at what I hear sometimes, but I also can laugh, and even learn something from it - we will end up with politicaly correct, boring, pleasant discourse that will drive listeners to satellite or "OFF."

PS - I think it's amusng that WQAM boards ops have been invading local boards, chattering away about Sid's involvement. Like their station doesn't have a few "issues."

Ok. I'm done on this topic. Flame away.
