Imus silenced?

Fired yes... but don't hold the wake yet. The I-man will land on XMius without missing a beat. They (or someone else) will pay him the same millions he gets now. His radiothon will pick up where it left off. He may even get higher ratings.

One thing certain: after all these years on mostly secondary AM signals--pulling ones and twos--everyone finally knows who he is.

And I wish him well. What a crock of crap when what he says gets him fired & when a rap artist says the same thing & it gets played on a station owned by the same company as Imus was on, not only does the rapper not get fired, he sells a zillion records & becomes a superstar. I'm not prejudiced, but double standards like this makes me question why I'm not.

Since when did nappy haired ho become racist or racial? It simply means a whore with bad hair, white or black. This is why I love South Park, they never back down.

I find it odd that not one of his friends stood up for him. No commentators, politicians who were guests of his show. Their silence on this issue speaks for itself.

I remember hearing his show on 1160 WBOB during its sports talk days before Trumpy took the morning slot. Imus didn't last long in Cincinnati.

I doubt he'll go to either XM or Sirius in the near future. I can't see him attracting enough listeners to make it profitable enough to either service unless He decides to take a huge pay cut.

Plus, he's damaged goods for the time being. XM and Sirius are trying to get this merger accomplished. That is their #1 short-term goal. I can't see them spending big bucks for any personalities right now.

Well, now THERE'S a standard for excellence.
No, but he was in New York for 30 friggin years.

There IS a world outside of I-275

Oh I don't think it'll happen til the merger is finalized, but Imus will get a gig on satellite if he wants it. I'm sure of that. If Stern can, Imus can.

This is only if Imus wants it though. I would imagine he'd like to go out on his terms, but then again he may just say "funk this" and focus solely on running his ranch. It could go either way.

Lest we forget, Rutgers sports are also carried on WFAN. Chris Carlin, the Imus in the morning sportscaster, is the voice of Rutgers football. I'm sure the university had a say in what happened here, too.

The sponsors would have come back eventually. They always do. CBS paniced. It's a shame.

P.S. I listen to Lincoln Ware in the mornings now cuz he's the only local talk show in the market, and I *still* didn't know that Sharpton had a radio show til this Imus stunt. Did anyone else?

I think he will try to get back on satellite, eventually. He needs to have a platform to get donations for the ranch.

Who said, "Imus didn't last long in Cincinnati?"

He was on for almost 5 years! He was on 1230 before moving to 1160 for a few years, then back to 1230 for a couple more while Trumpy and the Angry Guys were on 1160. He had also been on WPFB for a few years until just recently when they went Classic Country.

Learn some history.

While Chris Carlin is the voice of Rutgers footbal, WOR is the station that carries Rutgers football and men's basketball.

BobontheJob...Rap stars supposedly get away with what they do because the white men who own the labels and make the big money let it happen. Misguided young stars do it because The Man pays them to, whether the stars know any better or not. Many black people I know HATE negative rap but feel powerless because most of the white public sees the situation as a "black" thing. What do white people care about what black people who say to each other? Many whites are glad young black men are shooting each other. Less competition for their kids---more chances for them to land in jail and stay out of your neighborhoods. Black leaders have fought, but it really comes down to white support, just like there was for Imus' firing. Do many people like you really care about what black rap stars say about their own people? Were YOU offended by those things BEFORE the Imus rant? Probably not. You apprently listened to it or you wouldn't know what the lyrics were. Were you offended by the Hispanic J-Lo saying the "N" word on one of her records?

With so many great and talented people from radio out of work, many who post on this board, it's hard to feel too sorry about the loss of someone who can make any kind of negative rant for years and keep his job for so long, when so many careers and families have been torn apart in this business for way less money and status. Many responsible broadcasters can't even get a "thanks-but-no-thanks" letter when inquiring about a job. Imus will be back, not to worry. Bob, glad you really care about those folks and worry about how they tear each other down. I know many are disappointed that a white man can't assist them. With Imus' help, who knows how much more progress could be made in tearing down an entire race by what we say. The rap stars and Imus still could have an alliance and work together and tear the people down.

Legendary K.O. Katrina Lyrics
George Bush Don't Like Black People
By Legendary K.O.

I ain't saying he's a goldigger,

but he ain't messing with no broke niggas
I ain't saying he a goldigger,

but he ain't messing with no broke niggas

George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people

Hurricane came through, ####ed us up round here
Government acting like it's bad luck down here
All I know is that you better bring some trucks round here
Wonder why I got my middle finger up round here

People lives on the line you declining to help
Since you taking so much time we surviving ourself
Just me and my pets, and my kids, and my spouse, trapped
In my own house looking for a way out (pause)

Five days in this mother####ing attic
Can't use the cellphone I keep getting static
Dying 'cause they lying instead of telling us the truth
Other day the helicopters got my neighbors off the roof (off the roof)

Screwed 'cause they say they coming back for us too
That was three days ago, I don't see no rescue
See a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
Since God made the path that I'm trying to walk through

Swam to the store, tryin' to look for food
Corner store's kinda flooded so I broke my way through
I got what I could but before I got through
News say the police shot a black man trying to loot

(Who!?) Don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like 'em

I ain't saying he a goldigger,

but he ain't ####ing with no broke niggas
I ain't saying he a goldigger,

but he ain't checking for no broke niggas

George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people

Five damn days, five long days
And at the end of the fifth he walking in like "Hey!"
Chilling on his vacation sitting patiently
Them black folks gotta hope, gotta wait and see

If FEMA really comes through in an emergency
But nobody seem to have a sense of urgency
Now the mayor's been reduced to crying
I guess Bush said, "*****'s been used to dying!"

He said, "I know it looks bad, just have to wait"
Forgetting folks who too broke to evacuate
Niggas starving and they dying of thirst
I bet he had to go and check on them refineries first

Making a killing off the price of gas
He would have been up in Conneticut twice as fast
After all that we've been through nothing's changed
You can call Red Cross but the fact remains that...

George Bush ain't a goldigger,

but he ain't ####ing with no broke niggas
George Bush ain't a goldigger,

but he ain't ####ing with no broke niggas

Come down Bush, c'mon come down
Come down Bush, c'mon come down
Come down Bush, c'mon come down
Come down Bush, c'mon come down

George Bush ain't a goldigger (Hmmn)
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people
George Bush don't like black people

Come down George, c'mon come down
Come down George, c'mon come down
Come down George, c'mon come down
Come down George, c'mon come down

(Fade out)

Many responsible broadcasters can't even get a "thanks-but-no-thanks" letter when inquiring about a job.

Amen to that.

During my very brief career in radio in the years after I graduated from college, never would I have anticipated the monumental changes that would take place. As a former colleague told me when laid off from my only on-air job, it would be the best thing that ever happened to me.

How right she was.

Because with the exception of stations like locally owned and operated WAKR out of Akron, most so-called "news" stations have become propaganda outlets for Fox News likes of Imus, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage.

Imus' career will not skip a beat. He'll be on XM or Sirius within days.

And there is no doubt in my mind the bulk of the radio talent given pink slips by corporate owners are the ones with strong community ties who believe their role as broadcasters is to serve the public interest.

After I was laid off from my last on-air job, I started a customer service career which has culminated in my current position in the public sector--one which pays more than double what some on-air people make in the Columbus market.

I've been lambasted by some members on this board because they consider me naive for 1) my lack of years in the industry and 2) my support of progressive talk radio, both as a listener and an advertiser. But they hide behind their usernames, and I don't. Chances are, if they are employed, they are making less money than I am and they replaced reputable broadcasters who, while they made more money, EARNED it by taking seriously their responsibility to the public--the real owners of the airwaves.

But until more members of the public start speaking out as was the case with Imus, corporate owners will be more interested in lining the pockets of the shareholders than serving the public interest. And it's likely the responsible broadcasters now out of work will never find a job in this industry again.

That is until more listeners start waking up and taking back the airwaves that belong to them--not Clear Channel, Salem or any other corporate entity.

The listener revolt started with the disgust over Imus. Mark my words, Imus won't be the only one to incur listener wrath.

Sean (previous post) brings some reality to our little private club. I respect his statements and, hard to accept as they are, he has some valid points.

Never mind his experience--or lack thereof--or his bragging rights about making more money than us broadcasters. After all, nobody gets into radio with the idea of making huge money. Or if they do they sometimes end up like Sean has--which is to say happy with their fiscal life. And spending much of their remaining time on the planet with that feeling of "something is missing." Money does not fix that hole my friends.

Most of what I consider real broadcasters got into it for the love and passion of doing something we love and--by the grace of God--are good at doing.

Some have been fortunate enough to hold onto their gigs through piles of unfair management decisions that are made for business reasons and not for humanitarian ones. That is life in the real world. And it hurts like hell when it happens to you. Most of us have been through that on several occasions. But the true professionals are those who bounce back simply because they have made a commitment to self to do something they love.

... Until they can't anymore. And THEN--and only then--they are forced to find that "other" career. Sometimes it even pays twice as much.

I doubt he got any ratings on WPFB, As far as 1160/1230, IMUS was unknown in Cincinnati as there was very little promotion during the time He was on in the market and wasn't a success for the station, that's why Bob Trumpy was hired.

Sorry Bob, but you never said he didn't do well, you said he didn't last long. I would say five or more years is a long time. It's longer than most Q102 morning shows last.
