Imus starts on WELI Monday

While Glenn does ocassionally make some interesting observations, his whole show relies on putting down listeners and thinkers, which he says he is.

Glenn constantly preaches about God, faith, morals and family values, but then uses inuendo (sp) and other naughty humor in his program. How is that living his values? Would God, or Jesus like his more-on trivia?

Don't misunderstand. I don't hate Glenn Beck. I do hate his program and would like for him to be more consistant with his alleged values.

Now of course he's put forth some of his own effort, but he certainly hurt a lot of people along his way.
Info-Warrior: In our line of work, we have a catch-phrase for that: "That's Show Business." You are right about Stu. That kid was and is a gem. Any success he's had he's earned it and deserve it.

Every time I think of Glenn Beck a picture of Morton downey Jr. pops into my head. Go figure. Local pols turned talk show hosts work sometimes the problem is that more times than not they are as entertaining as watching paint dry. It becomes the same one note samba.

Limbaugh and to a lesser degree others (but not Beck) make it 'cause they are well read and produce a slick, entertaining show.

Imus makes it cause...he is Imus.

Now here is the REAL question...if this station does no local news, has no local content (except for commercials and program length commercials) then why is it on the air? What public interest does it serve?

As for the thought of a sporrts guy doiing a three hour local sports morning show? Keep me away from sharp objects...I might hurt myself.

As long as your radio comes with a tuner switch and an on/off button, I'm confident you can keep the sharp objects at bay. ;)

Ever watch TBS, or COMEDY CENTRAL, or HBO?
none of these "networks" offer local anything.....yes I know it is television and we are talking about RADIO but, think about it....When you want south park...you go to comedy central....when you want local news you go to (insert local station here)
People WILL come to Imus over PLR because they want ENTERTAINMENT....they will STILL listen to Glenn Beck....The problem here is what do you do besides home shopper and "The Coach" to be local....Maybe bring John Labarca's Itallian show on the weekend or maybe Tom Scott on evenings as I have learned that he sells real estate (thank you bill1820) Maybe it's Paul Pescelli on a part time basis....weekend update with Paul...who knows.
People....believe this....we could see a very BIG newstalk 960 weli in 2008!
I also would like to go on the record as we could and most likely WILL see a very, very sad year for Chaz and AJ and as a result of their failures a bad year for PLR as well.
Time will tell.

Caliv I think we get it...you hate Chaz and AJ...so why don't you just NOT listen to them? Is PLR the only station you get on your transistor? Not sure why you are so looking forward to their failure. Is it personal?

Not personal at all...I don't listen to them...I am just looking forward to a great "radio battle" which we have not seen in soooo long.
I am simply stating (what I believe to be) the facts.
A better show is comming and the lame will fall.

The times (admittedly not frequently) that I have caught the "Chaz and AJ" thing as I have been passing through I was thoroughly amazed as to how sophmoric it was. Maybe i caught them on bad days...then again.

As for Imus..we'll see...but since he is a syndicated show they'll never talk about local stuff....the audience is the loser.

Bit things for radio? At the rate CC is killing it the "big" thing in radio will be all satellite all the time everywhere and no costs to the company at all.

The nitwit factor is truly amazing. Thanks CC for proving that it is possible to understand your business so little you kill it.

Yes there are some benefits to syndication and it's not a terrible thing. However, the Comedy Central analogy doesn't fit as in your own analogy, the local channels are still local. Unfortunately, radio can't expand it's bandwidth the same way cable does. Once a local radio station has been turned into a satelite repeater, that's one less local channel to go to and there may be no other frequency the FCC will grant a license to for a new local station.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying radio stations should be forced to carry only local programming. Though a carefully chosen balance would be nice.

Yet, the only way change will happen is if enough people in the communities apply pressure to the stations to reform. However, with TV and the internet being the dominant medias in peoples lives, that's not likely to happen. So to further add to your point that it's not all the man's fault, your right the community bears a responsibility for this as well.

At one time (pre clear channel) WELI was a respected station with a nice followng.

Duggan, when are you refering to? Clearchannel has owned WELI since 1982, when they bought it off of Fred Walker and Insilco. The station is CC#8.

According to the license, 1982. I'm looking at it right now.
