Just announced that MSNBC will suspend Imus in The Morning beginning April 16th for two weeks.
The program which airs here in Boston on 96.9 from 6A-9A will continue apparently.
Brings to mind the comments of one Jay Severin - also on WTKK 96.9 the afternoon of Governor Deval Patrick appearing on Egan & Braude for his monthly session called "Ask The Governor". Jay Severin proceeded to call it "AXE the Governor" as if Deval Patrick who is Milton Academy and Harvard educated had the misplaced diction and pronounciation some African-Americans exhibit with the word "ask" making is sound like "AXE".
In point of fact, Jay Severin's remarks were pointedly racists and yet the management on WTKK did nothing about it.
Why is there a double standard? If Don Imus goes down for a stupid and ignorant remark shouldn't Jay Severin go down for a remark which was specifically spoken by Severin to have a charged racial slur effect?
One would think so. Yet, the silence from Greater Media, Inc is deafening.
