Imus to be broadcast in Hartford

On WCCC-AM 1290? I'm in New Britain's south end and I can barely pick them up. How can he garner any audience?

I suspect that this is a "test market" on behalf of the FM side. If the results are positive, it's possible FM will pick him (Imus) up.
I remember listening to Picozzi in the afternoon occasionally mentioning how he hated to be an early riser. It's possible that he sees this as an opportunity for him as well as an economical opportunity for the station. . . .

Is WCCC going to advertise this programming move or mention it on-air on the FM? The audience for the AM can probably be measured in hundreds, and they're all classical music fans -- I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb to predict that pre-empting the Beethoven Radio bird feed to pick up Imus will bring a negative reaction from the AM audience. Is WCCC management really going to interpret that input as an indication that Imus shouldn't be picked up for the FM, which served an entirely different demographic?

The 490 watt blowtorch of West Hartford!!

Even if it is a test before moving him to FM, is this really the best way to see if there's a Hartford audience for Imus?

If it's a test it's a bad idea. The 490 watts doesn't get out very far. And this time of year Sunrise is 7:15AM. That means they're gonna be running Imus at 11 watts for an hour and 15 mins. Plus if you didn't see the Hartford Courant article, who's gonna know it's there? I doubt they'll put up a billboard on I-84.

Just to nitpick, but the sunrise for Hartford on December 2nd is exactly 7:00 AM! (LOL) Seriously, if I get a crappy signal of WCCC-AM in New Britain's south end, I know you'll likely get nothing in either Bristol or Southington.

For what it's worth WCCC (AM) has pre-sunset authority from the Commission to run the "full" 490 watts starting at 6 am during the winter months.

If Imus delivers impressive numbers, FM will say "Well, if he's that good on the blowtorch, He should be that much better on the FM rocket.
