Imus to WABC ?

if the rumblings that have Imus returning to New York on WABC come through, would Citadel get a first crack at his show, if syndication is part of the picture, for its other markets?
and if so - where would he best fit if Portland were a Citadel market that might scoop him up?

I brought this up on the Boston board....but I wonder if the stations who plan to carry THE IMAN are locked into a one-year contract? Or do they have the right to "bail out" after the first 90 days? ::)

Maybe it comes down to how much sarcasm the average listener can handle?

Anybody know the IMAN's numbers compared to some of the local morning shows up here? ???

it depends on the GM and the contract language....i knew a GM that preferred year to year contracts and wouldn't sign for anything more

as for the bail out, i think you can under the right circumstances and once again, depends on the language you sign

Didn't I read on FMQB earlier this week that WABC's GM has gone on the record as saying it isn't going to happen?

I thought I just saw that Imus settled his contract for about 20 MILLION. If you even take the safest route of an investment, putting all the cash in a bank savings account at 3% you would still end up getting $600,000.00 per year in interest. I would have to believe the 'ranch' is paid for so all he would need is pocket money and - well - wouldn't 600k pretty much take care of the yearly bills?

If not, maybe he needs to readjust his lifestyle a little... slow down, enjoy life, take it easy, travel, etc. :)

Imus could wind up slightly up the dial from WFAN at WOR 710 as well, which sounds like their mornings could benefit from the I-Man's services. Curtis and Kuby in the mornings currently on WABC do quite well in the NYC ratings already. WOR already syndicates some of it's talk shows as well like Dr. Joy Browne for example.

If it was me that's what I'd do, in fact I already am...on a lot less than $600K/yr. :mad:

Actually the ranch is probably the major motivation for Imus to stay in broadcasting. He needs a show as a platform to keep those donations coming in. According to the WSJ his overhead at the ranch is pretty high.

No doubt Deborah Imus wants him to keep pushing her line of non-tox cleaners too.

It's tough being the I-Man. ::)

Then maybe he should team up with the 'Oxy-Clean' guy and they could both do a 30 minute 'infomercial' type program TV stations could play at 3:00am. Make a big donation and receive some cleaning product and an autographed picture of the I-Man himself. Imus could demonstrate to Billy how to polish a gold RE-27 microphone with the wife's quality polishing concoction. That would be a pretty good deal! ;D

(With ideas like that no wonder I can't hold onto a job... :D )

No matter what contract a station signs, no syndicator or network can force a station to carry their programming. They can bail at any time. However, the network or syndicator can force the station to carry the commercial inventory associated with the show until the end of the contract. This ruling goes back a few decades when an Easy Listening syndicator tried to force stations to obey every directive they issued. The FCC saw it as an abdication of the station's responsibility to serve its community. That doesn't mean that the syndicator can't move the show to another station after the contract expires. Also, if a show is paid like Imus and Limbaugh the fees continue until the end of the contract.

It's very tough for a syndicator to be sure the inventory is being run if the show isn't.
