I think lots of people just believe certain careers "SHOULD" Be over. Certain acts get old after a while. Imus, Limbaugh. etc..... They've been doing the same thing for so long and to many people it gets tiring.

Kind of an interesting comment. Although not a huge fan of Limbaugh he is topical and discusses very current issues every day. It is not like he is discussing the same thing today that he did 5 years ago. I think in FM music format morning show radio, things get old. Same stunts or accordian songs or spoofs etc that they did 15 years ago and still do today. As for IMUS, his guest are big names from all walks of life. He has top political, sports, tv and musical guests on all the time all discussing current issues or topics. I would guess that you might think that the daily news paper or evening news is old because they continue to print stories on paper or talk every night on tv about what is going on. What about Playboy? Is that an "old" act because they continue to show women.

I see your point. Personally when I tune into Limbaugh he just seems so pompus. That side of his personality gets old to me. Imus and that stupid cowboy hat get old to me. Stern and his strippers get o........ Scratch that last one. I changed my mind. But what I'm trying to say is that after doing something for so long it's never quite as exciting as it once was. All of the personalities are still good. But a breath of fresh air every once in a while would be nice.

Seems like we are in a much faster paced world and always wanting something new and fresh. Be it a car, restaurant, tv show etc. Not sure if that is good or bad.

If you listen closely, you can also hear Sid, I believe, refer to the game against the "jig-a-boos" against the "wanna-bes".

He gave an "audio" footnote to the "jig-a-boos" against the "wanna-bes" comment. That was first mentioned in a Spike Lee movie called "School Daze" where a group of dark skinned nappy haired black girls competed against a group of light skinned black girls with "good hair".

Does that soften the controversy? Doubtful, but it could lay the ground work for a "black people have been saying that about black women for years" defense.

Heck, listen to any hip-hop song and you'll hear far worse comments made about black women.

As for Imus' show being "tired", "old", etc., I completely disagree. Despite the recent stupid comments concerning the Rutgers women's basketball squad, the show is still top-notch as far as I'm concerned. I'm usually awake at 5:30am and, even though I'm a huge sports fan and can watch "Mike & Mike" on ESPN2, I prefer to watch "Imus in the Morning" on MSNBC. He has interesting guests, whether they be authors, musical acts or fellow broadcasters.

I rarely find the show tiring - as many of the elements are "top of the mind" stories of the day. The skits involving Rob Bartlett are great.

The only things that make me cringe are when he brings his wife to the show and when the language gets a little "salty". Yes, it's not a kids' show but some restraint should be shown by Don, Charles & Bernard.

This is the main problem I have with Imus these days. It's the fact that he's not who he used to be. The imus I grew up with was more fun. He was a lot less political and more lighthearted. I found the show much more entertaining. I am not a big fan of politics to begin with. So I'm not very fond of shows that start to lean in that direction..... especially when they started off as something totally different in the first place. Politics gets old fast! When you revolve your entire show around them it just becomes unlistenable for me. I lose interest quick and want to find something fun on the dial instead.

I guess I watch Imus for different reasons than you do. Agreed, the show used to be more fun and irreverant, but, to get my fill of today's headlines, I prefer "Imus in the Morning" to the "cutesy" shows like "Today", "Fox & Friends" and other shows targeting soccer moms.

I have a qustion. My dad is listening to 680 now, Howie Carr is talking about Imus. No love lost with these two. Howie stated, he successfully sued Imus years ago, Imus made derogatory comments about Howie's first wife . Anyone know about this.? Howie stated , that Imus has lost a few lawsuits.

I agree with the suspension; but why next Monday and not immediately? Doesn't make sense, although I wonder how he will not make fun of this over the next 4 days (also, it is kind of funny that Wyatt's school vaca will be next week, too, so he would have been off more than likely)

I find it shocking that someone can even attempt to defend the popularily of Imus... especially since he has none. His numbers have been terrible for years. His show is still on the air because SOMEHOW the WFAN sales department can sell it. They must have some stellar AEs over there (FAN is still the top billing station in the nation I believe) because there's NO WAY it's being sold based on his ratings. There must be some package deals over there.

Come on. Imus has no listeners. I know it and you know it. He should have retired years ago... he looks and sounds like a corpse.

The man must have pictures. I can't explain it any other way.

Overall, the latest trend has WFAN 17th 12+ according to All Access w/ a 2.2 overall and as we know, Imus trends higher in the higher age groups and mornings always carry the rest of the day for the station...Holland might be able to give a better market synopsis in the male 25+ numbers for NY, DC, Boston, Philly & LA...I have a feeling here in RI he is losing to Paul & Al, Opie and Anthony, WEEI FM, Hot 106 and probably Ron St Pierre & Cat Country(not in that order)...seeing as the books have been embargoed since last summer, It would take someone on the inside who actually buys the book to confirm it here

It's not all about the number of listeners when it comes to selling a program. The quality of the audience is equally, if not more important. The Imus audience is comprised of the highest income, in most markets, in addition he is listened to by business owners and decision makers who buy large ticket items. Luxury vehicles, office products, and equipment etc. Imus always acknowleded that he would never beat Stern in the ratings, but WFAN is the highest billing radio station in the nation. No other show has the quality of guests that he has.

For a nationally syndicated show, it may as well be. Those numbers are embarrassing.

As for the "quality of listener" vs. quantity of listener argument, I've read that in the past... and if the WFAN sales department is using that angle, it does explain a few things. Like I said, FAN must have a stellar sales department to get an advertiser to believe that crap!

According to the WFAN website, he has affiliates in all of those markets. The stations are:
LA-KCAA AM 1050
DC-WARK AM 1490 and WTNT AM 570
Philly-WWDB AM 860 (I'm looking on their site and it says Imus is on right now).

That must be something new. Kind of funny how Imus can show up and nobody even notices! The last time I remember him in town is when he was on 1210. And that was a while ago because Michael Smerconish has been doing mornings there now for at least 5 years.

And the DC and LA stations are both rimshotters... hardly city grade signals. His "DC" station is in Hagerstown which is like 75 miles outside of the metro.... kind of like calling a Providence station your "Boston" affiliate.
