Imus

If they fire Imus for being racially insensitive, they'll have to fire Mork and Mindy for their "Bryce" character, where one of them pretends to be an African American. What's the difference?

That's not actually a "Mork & Mindy" bit. I think that's on another morning show. ;D

Imus, should be canned, solely based on wearing that stupid hat on national TV. I love how the media keeps referring to Imus as a "Shock Jock". The only shock value he exhudes, is his continued presence in radio. He's sucked since the mid 80's, and no amount of being racist, and sexist, can keep him relevant, no matter how much coverage he gets. He's like Janet Jackson, he has to do something stupid, on national TV, to get noticed again. Keith Richards is more relevant, from a credibility standpoint. Maybe Imus should snort some "nappy headed" ashes next, that'd get some more coverage for 'em. Maybe Pirates of the Caribbean 4 can pick him up as "walk on part" too. Hopefully a role, where he finally walks the plank. A plank that's been waiting on him, and that stupid hat for over 20 years. CFKane

Although I'm certainly no Imus fan either (I don't feel much different about Howard-neither has the talent of a Dees)- I also wondered to myself after all the hub-bub, what if he were Eddie Griffin or Dave Chappell and he had said that? Would sponsers be pulling ads? Would they kill simulcasts then? No.
Then, todays editorial section of the Ca (of all places) had a letter that asked, "What about Three-Six mafia's song, It's hard out here for a pimp?"
That song decribes black women as much worse than "Nappy-headed ho's", yet we heaved praise upon it and actually gave it an Academy Award?
The fact is...NOBODY should be calling young black women what Imus called them.

If Dave Chappell calls white women "Cracker Ho's" do you think Jesse and Al (or even Steve Cohen) would show up at a march and demand his removal? ..NO! I don't think so.

And finally...how can Edmund and the rest of the Ford's use this racial comment and blame it on Marshall and Chumney? Who needs their white sheets?!

God, he's an idiot and so are the people who continue to put people like him and Ophelia in public office.
Chumney ought to be spanked for not voting, too. What a wuss she turned out to be when it all came to a head.

Kill my landlord, kill my landlord! ;D

Oh, lord..it's infected this board too...

The Rutgers team was as much at fault for responding to it. They should have ignored the remarks and gone on, but they just couldn't let it go. Now their accomplishment on the court has been all but forgotten.

But I have no more time for such trivial pursuits. I am now embarking on a crusade to have "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder banned from the airwaves.

First, a disclaimer. Racism is abhorrent, and those who practice it deserve to be beaten with sticks. That being said, the Imus issue brings up some very important issues.

Many, including Reverend Al Sharpton, are asking for FCC intervention in this case. Said the Reverend, “There's no way the airwaves should be used to allow people to call people 'nappy-headed hos’ … And for [Imus] … to just walk away … would then mean that the FCC, who regulates everything on the airwaves … has no purpose at all.” Wow. Do any of y’all get how dangerous that statement is? Sharpton is advocating FCC regulation to go beyond the obscene to the merely offensive. That would mean they would regulate THOUGHT, not just the prurient or disgusting.

When the founding fathers wrote the First Amendment, they intended it to apply to unpopular speech. Popular speech, after all, needs no protection. The fact that this unpopular speech is on public airwaves is of no consequence. It is NO different than standing on a street corner and spouting hate (assuming they are not calling for violence, or the like). It’s offensive, but it’s protected – and should be.

Imus is an idiot, but this is bigger than him. I am not ready to have my speech vetted by anyone (other than my employers), including, but not limited to Mr. Sharpton. For NBC to cancel Mr. Imus or sponsors to pull advertising is certainly appropriate; for government to stifle speech – as stupid as it may be – is simply unacceptable.

Y’all get this?

DE

...So, in the interests of "Fair Play," When will we hear Rev. Sharpton's apology to the Duke Lacross Team?

Yes, I get it and I agree.

But the way to 'regulate' so called offensive or idiotic speech, racist or otherwise, is to just ignore it.

But we as a society seem pathologcially unable to do that. Instead we make it into a national scandal and allow folks like Sharpton to get a foothold with their dangerous agenda.

"Offensive" speech will always be around as long as there is someone to be offended. However, if you refuse to be offended then the speech becomes powerless. You react, you give the comment legitimacy....but it takes personal fortitude and self-esteem, not the victim mentality, to NOT react.

If Dave Chappell calls white women "Cracker Ho's" do you think Jesse and Al (or even Steve Cohen) would show up at a march and demand his removal? ..NO! I don't think so.

No, but the majorioty of white women will just shrug and say "yeah, whatever..." It's no big deal to them. They know they aren't.

Chumney ought to be spanked for not voting, too.

I can pass that along, if it's an offer.

Kill my landlord, kill my landlord! ;D

LOL Only the old guys are gonna get that one.

'Saur, you know had me nodding, until I read this...

The Rutgers team was as much at fault for responding to it. ???

Maybe it's time for you to look in that black cavity in your chest, where there USED to be a heart, and ask Jesus to come into your life. Fill out a decision card. If you need to know what to pray, one of the ushers will come pray with you... CFKane

Then you need to go back and read it again...

By 'fault' I meant for this becoming a national time waster. I'm not debating if the comment was or was not racist. I'm arguing the ridiculous national reaction to it. And by time waster, I mean this has done nothing positive to further the eradication of racism in America.

The team should have ignored the idiotic comment. If they refuse to be offended then Imus and his words have no power over them. There's an old saying that "he who angers you controls you".

But look what happened. We're all discussing this instead of them whipping a damn good UT team, which is what we (the nation) SHOULD be discussing. I submit it takes away a lot of the recognition the team deserves.

It was all about forgiveness and a calm heart...and that IS in The Bible.

I wrote about it earlier on myspace. Cheesy, but it keeps me in touch with people, so I do it. Here it is...

If I were ever to run for elected office, I've already written my first radio advertisement:

I would've added more names if I had known any more, so if I failed to offend you, I apologize. I meant to offend every person who read it.

Does the above make me a racist?

I'm watching the whole Don Imus thing and I really don't understand what the fuss is. He made a bad joke. He's gotten suspended for the joke. Yet that's not enough for a couple of media whores in Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?

What effort did Imus become a roadblock for? Did him saying "nappy ho" make work for people of color less available? Are black people making less money now because he made a bad joke? Why is he being made an example of?

I'll be honest...when I get on the air with Rock 103 (doing more than traffic), I want to do two things. One, I want to make Tim Spencer, my boss, laugh. Two, I want people to react to what I say, for good or bad. And if that means I need to insult or offend someone on the air, so be it. People will call in, others will tell friends to tune in to listen to the moron on the air. All of a sudden, we have a spike in ratings.

Does that mean that I believe what I say? Or does it mean that I found out what words may push people's buttons and use them to gain a reaction? As far as I'm concerned, it's the latter because I want you, the listener, to react to me.

Imus did the same....he went for the reaction. I don't think he is even remotely racist because I understand what he was trying to do. I know I'm in the minority, but it's about time that the minority should be heard.

Imus was stupid. It was a stupid bit and he apologized for it. He's even willing to face those that he insulted and apologize again. That's to be respected, not scorned. And I'm a little tired of those two media whores making their mountains where a molehill should be found.

[EDIT-offensive content]

To imply that the team itself, was AS MUCH at fault as Don Imus in this case?

Maybe they should have ignored it. That doesn't make it as much their fault for being called that. That's flat wrong, and you know it. Rutgers "fault" in this, initially was playing the game, to get noticed, enough to be picked on by that dillhole, Imus.

Just because they didn't turn the other cheek, when being called that, doesn't make it nearly as wrong, as what was said about them. Not even close.

To imply they have as much fault in this as Imus, well, that is without merit, and perhaps, completely "without mercy". (see James 2:13 or 3:10) CFKane

"Maybe it's time for you to look in that black cavity in your chest, where there USED to be a heart, and ask Jesus to come into your life."

What does Jesus have to do with any of this? Does he have a show Imus can go on and talk about how sorry he is?

Quoted for Truth. Your tangent was embarassing, CFK.

Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for 8 minutes in Washington, the now famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

The Rutgers coach made a statement for 40 minutes about how she was wronged.

Just putting the media whoring into perspective.

You don't get sarcasm do you?

Obviously I am not here to evangelize Radiosaur, I think he even gets that. I was trying to show how seemingly heartless that statement was, that's all. If my tangent displeases you, I am sorry. I do think Radiosaur got it. Point taken Birdman... CFKane

It's all good. Just turned over a money-changers' table that I saw. *group hug*

Just came over the wire. Imus was dropped by CBS now. No word on whether the hat came into play on the termination. (What does hat have to do with it reply coming in 3-2-...) The funniest part of the whole story, news media, has had to figure out how to properly spell "Ho" and what it's plurals are. CFKane
