IMUS

I hope they don't put his crap around here and destroy KGO or KFRC
Citidel would be foolish to put him on KGO. KFRC is a music oriented format. Imus won't generate significant ratings in the bay area, but a station that is looking for a name should consider him. Maybe KTRB. How has Mancow been doing? Anyone know?

"Citidel would be foolish to put him on KGO."

Amen. There is a new boss in town at KGO...but the secret to the station's success has always been "live and local." They'd be nuts to blow that now, or cede the entire morning all news audience to KCBS by killing the Morning News for Imus or anything else. Moving Ronn Owens to another time slot to run Imus on tape-delay at 9:00 is even less likely. Similarly, I doubt they'd replace Lee and Melanie on KSFO for Imus.

Keep in mind that Imus has never been popular here. He ran on KPIX-FM for awhile in the early 90s, but that was it. After that, the closest he could get to San Francisco was a Vallejo AM. Ironically, he'll probably be more popular now because of the controversy and publicity around his firing. Being a total jerk (and getting noticed for it) has made him relevant again.

I'm betting KTRB...KNEW might be a long shot.

To follow up my previous post, my only thought about KTRB is that Mancow has some strong history in the market, albiet years ago. If he hasn't been doing well, which I suspect not since it's a start up station, they may wait to see if he gains traction....which I also don't think will happen.

Also, remember that KUFX in San Jose ran his show before that and it was a DISASTER for them.

Bay Area listeners are too smart and sophisticated to listen to this moron Imus. No station with any kind of ratings in the Bay Area is going to carry him. A station in Sacramento, maybe. For ABC to pimp itself out for this reject, shows how very weak the talent pool really is out there.

Unfortunately, it's a new day at the former "ABC" stations. Citadel now runs the show and they are headed up by Chairman & CEO Farid Suleman, former head bean counter for Mel, who employed Imus for years.

Under some sort of mandate of CBS, Imus was on taxi frequency 1550, which is licensed to San Francisco.

KTRB is a joke - like KLAA here in the Southland - it has the potential to be more, but which boneheaded decisions like Mancow, it won't be. Mancow is very expensive and never works on these AM stations, even many FMs. Might as well take Imus for basically nothing. Or better yet, I'd rather see 860 turn into an infomercial haven, keeping Beck just to have a name talent. Couldn't do any worse.

Well I suppose one could say it's early to tell what they'll eventually be, as both are start ups, but I don't have a lot of faith in KTRB. Pappas doesn't have the reputation for stellar radio operations. KLAA has signal problems, but if Art Moreno invests in, and promotes his radio station the way he does his Los Angeles Angeles (of anaheim), it could be a great operation.
