In Jackson, CBS and The CW will move August 1

After 73 years as a CBS affiliate--and, in a very surprising move--WJTV will ditch the network.

The CW--currently on 12-2--will move to 12-1.

CBS will move from WJTV (12-1) to WAPT (16-2), displacing MeTV.

Since 1970, WAPT has Jackson's sole ABC affiliate. And on August 1, WAPT will have secondary affiliation with CBS.

From September, 1993 to January, 1995, WAPT had banned Steven Bochco's highly-controversial crime drama, NYPD: Blue.

In January, 1995, WAPT finally lifted its ban on NYPD: Blue.

WJTV NewsChannel CW12?
  • 12-1: CBS The CW
  • 12-2: The CW (unknown at this time)
WAPT
  • 16-1: ABC
  • 16-2: MeTV CBS

No surprise at all. This is Nexstar replacing CBS with a network that it owns. They're doing the same thing at several other stations.

Perhaps they think the audience won't notice or care. But this is simply a move about money, and keeping their money in house.

People don't watch stations or networks. They watch programs. If the programs they want are someplace else, they will find them. Especially if we're talking about sports.
