In the 50's, A Host with a few voices from Mt. Idy ???

When I was an adolesent in Boston, I listen to this guy and one day, I went to his studio and was totally suprised to witness a one man show.... Forgot his name..WEEI, I think.

I'm not sure if I am right but Jerry Howard is the name that comes to mind.
At the moment I can't recall much about the show but I believe he did voices for an older male and female.
Don't remember any Mt Idy on that show . Cliff Arquette used that (Mt Idy) for his Charlie Weaver character.

I believe Howard used an on-air personna of "Slim Pickens." and was an long time announcer on WJDA, going back to its glory days. His stock in trade was a Down East accent. IIRC he did some commercial voice work as 'Uncle Eph', the spokesman for Raymonds, a curious local store which was a combination harberdasher ("Where you bought the hat") and rug merchant.

Regards,
TSB

Thanks for the link buick59,
I believe it's the same Jerry Howard (Howorth).
When he gave the weather report it was; Humiditidy

Howard used at least two voices on the air besides his natural one. Besides Slim, he also did Elizabeth "Lizzy" Perkins. IIRC, the Lizzy voice was rather similar to Ray Goudling's Mary Backstage (noble wife). I recall Howard using all three voices (Slim, Lizzy, Jerry) in more-or-less equal measure, but there may have been still others that I have forgotten.

Also, although I could be mistaken, ISTR Howard doing overnights on WBZ at some point.

I remember a "Pickens" character (no first name) on the old Radio New England Magazine show from the 80s. This one also used a downeast accent. Same guy?
