In the business.....

I was just wondering how many people here are currently working in the Nashville radio market. You don't have to disclose where you work, just interested in how many people are actually working in radio.

I'll start.......

Yes......and have been for the past 2+ years here in Nashville.

That's pretty cool.......I was born in '74 (yeah you are old, but I'm catching up haha), grew up here in Nashville. I have to say, I feel lucky to be able to work in my hometown especially in this business. You remember the days though, man, I know radio was "bigger" before all the other options came along, but Nashville radio used to be GREAT!!! Don't get me wrong, I think we are doing ok now, but man those were the days. I guess we end up saying that about alot of things though. What stations did you work with, say 80's early 90's?

btw....I've been in commercial radio since '98, tack on a couple more years on a college station prior to that, but does that really count? haha

Oh, only about half of them. [Bada-bing].

Seriously, first air shifts around state in mid- to late 70s, Nashville since early 80s. Spent some time in management, then exited by late 90s. Now part of a non-radio Company That Shall Remain Nameless where I relate to hundreds of commercial broadcast stations on a daily basis.

Yes. Over 10 years now.<P ID="signature">______________

In the biz since '82; on the air regularly in Nashville since 1988.

Never have been in the business...

I've just been fascinated by radio, programming and formats since the '60s.

I wonder if anyone else has been in the area long enough to remembers a stunt on WMAK-AM (my sister's favorite: early Venus?) in the late '60s which basically killed WKDA (my favorite: early Jack?) as a Top 40 station, after it had been #1.

Scott Shannon (yes, that SS) broke a Tiny Tim record, saying something like "I can't take this anymore", Coyote McCloud (yes, that-; interesting contrast: Shannon has been in Atlanta, Tampa, LA, and NYC (twice), and McCloud, who went with him to Atl. has been, well here, there and back here) "just happened to be driving by" though it was hours from his air time, the station mgt. broadcast its support of Shannon, and the rest was [Nashville radio] history.

this IS THE ONE. This board is suddenly depressing me! I guess
it's time for Geritol. Do they still make that? Hope it's 80 proof.

At least none of you are "as young" as Bryan Sargent...........
Love ya, man! Amazingly enough, he hasn't aged a year on the

P.S. Sarge ---I'm buying dinner this time...and lots of drinks.
I know, I'm dead for doing this.

In radio from 1986-89, then started this darn courier service. Spent time in Clarksville, Hopkinsville, Centerville TN, Russellville KY. As a marketing major and an avid radio listener, I enjoy the motivations and decisions behind format, demographics, advertising. This is a good message board.

In the business and on the radio at least weekly in Nashville for 25 years.

Five years in Music City with Cumulus. Twenty years in "the biz" in various markets large and small as a radio brat, the son of a great broadcaster, who got a lucky break when he was just ten... and I have the scars on my fingers to prove I spliced tape. I eat, sleep, and breathe this sheeat. Radio is my life, and it's an honor to have my voice and production airing on 650 WSM and a new radio legend, 95.5 The Wolf.
