Inauguration 2013

I think it's about time we start a topic on this. Obviously this is a 2nd inauguration, so it won't be nearly as big a deal or as historic as Obama's first. But obviously all the major networks and news stations are covering it, so I think we should try and see who would have the best coverage, and here is what I've found:

CBS: Expanded edition of CBS This Morning from 7 to 10, Inauguration coverage runs from 10 to 4, with a local newscast at 1pm (in some markets).
ABC: Special edition of GMA until 9:30, Inauguration coverage running until 3pm.
NBC: Expanded Today Show, with Inauguration running until 3pm.
Fox: Not starting until 11am, ending at 2:30.
PBS NewsHour: Airing in some markets, but not others, running from 11am until 2:30.
TeleMundo: Running from 11 until 2, I believe.
Fox News: Starting at 11 (I think), and ending at 3 or 4.
CNN: Wall-to-wall coverage all day from 9 to 4.
C-Span: Starting at 7am, but ending at 2pm (according to my program guide, it could change).

lets see....locally in Minneapolis

CBS WCCO (O&O)....cutaway at noon for news (1/2 hour)
ABC KSTP..cutaway at 11:00AM for their hour long news
FOX KMSP (O&O)...regular programming. Guide shows nothing about it
NBC KARE...no cutaways
PBS KTCA..they are shifting it to sister station KTCI (2-3)

CBS in Mnakato (90 miles down the road but some folks get on cable or OTA)...no cutaways

Don't forget the actual Inauguration, per the Constitution, will take place Sunday morning in what is called a "Private" ceremony. The three major news channels will be covering that, and I would presume the major networks might have some form of coverage at the time the President takes the Oath.

.Let's just hope he doesn't forget "Left hand on the Bible," though this year Barack gets a mulligan (Not that it's a big deal. Hand on Bible's merely ceremonial.).

If I was president, I'd insist on the Koran. Not because I'm religious, just because it'd hack people off. ;D

Just a correction, KSTP will carry the inauguration uninterrupted. Presumably, KMSP will too.

He didn't. But it was the Chief Justice who flubbed things up last time out, creating the awkwardness. This time, no trouble - he brought a cue card. All done in less than a minute.

Not to mention having two Bibles to swear on for good measure, Martin Luther King Jr's and Abraham Lincoln's. Question is, why two Bibles?

Tell me this when was the last time the inauguration was ever on a Sunday with a private deal and then on Monday with the real deal. I thought that it was a coincidence that the real deal is occuring on a holiday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)

Last happened in 1985, Reagan's second inauguration. Next time it happens will be in 2041.

FYI Richard Nixon was the first to use two Bibles. Obama is the second. The Bible itself is always ceremonial. IIRC, he used Lincoln's for his first Inauguration. I only saw one Bible on Sunday.

That may be the reason for using MLK's Bible.

Normally, Inauguration Day is a Federal holiday, meaning it's a day off for federal employees in the Capitol area. The reason is to cut down on the traffic. Combining it with a National Holiday should increase the spectators. I've been to a few, and it's always a fun day if the weather co-operates.

Oh darn, and I didn't get to watch and won't be able to watch. Well, we know he was inaugurated at noon today.

The first answer was simple. The bible that was used in Sunday's swearing-in belonged to Michelle Obama's family.

The second is correct. Plus The President and Vice President (who made history by having SCOTUS Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first female Latina on the high court, do his swear-in), took time out to pay respects to Dr. King at his memorial.

All this Bible playing around has me confused. So he used Michelle Obama's family Bible for his swearing in today which was supposedly private? But how is Obama going to handle two Bibles (MLK Jr's and Abraham Lincoln's) for swearing in on Monday? Is he going to use both Bibles and swear on each one or what? Or is there going to be two swearing in's for each Bible?

Directv guide still shows KSTP leaving for an hour news at 11AM
Neither KMSP nor KEYC-DT2 (Mankato) have it listed...both are Fox affiliates

I see Bounce TV is carrying it too

One on top of the other?

KCTS has the PBS coverage here. KOMO, KING, KIRO, NWCN covering it here. JEERS to KCPQ - they cut off for four minutes of commercials during the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir segment.

KMSP didnt start their broadcast until 10:02 (they abruptly cut off Anderson Live)

I don't think any of our O&O's ran Network morning
shows? Well, as some1 who grewup in an era of wall2wall
Network coverage, I was rather surprised to see our
KCBS 2 leave CBS from 10-1030-AM for local news.
Considering CBS owns 2 stations in this market, and a
fact of KCAL 9 running locally anchored coverage, I
found it quite unhelpful for KCBS-TV to drop out. Its
not like we have another alternative place to turn if a
Network station pre-empts coverage. I practicly think
it should be required that coverage should at least be
available on another multicast channel. Another
unwelcome surprise this morning, PBS coverage ended
more than 1hour early on both KOCE and PBS World.
