Indefinite Vay Cay for Jay

Hmm! I was on the facebook page for WTKK and people were saying things along the lines of "thank God Jay is back on solo" (apparently the experiment with him co-hosting with Bower was over)
but as I went along the dial yesterday I heard Bower was on in his slot...

Jay is under contract till 2013 I believe. Wonder if he'll get renewed? (Would Greater, despite
at least one denial, prefer Howie in that slot or in mornings, once he's done with RKO in the fall of '12?)

I don't know what he said, but it can't be any worse than a few of the gems Andelman tossed out there weeks before he left.

I don't see how Severin can host his show on Neptune and take phone calls. Neptune is well over a billion miles from Earth, so it takes a call over an hour to reach the planet and another hour to return.

According to a followup in the Globe and bostonradiowatch.com, Severino stepped on a landmine while discussing sexual harassment in the workplace. It's a subject to be handled V-E-R-Y carefully. Oops.

I didn't know, I thought Uranus.

sexual harrassment: wasn't Howie let go by RKO poss. due to a woman (an intern for him)
complaining about that? (He eventually went to WHDH then he and Rush moved to RKO
when EEI moved from 590 to 850)

Is GM trying to get rid of Jay and this could be a good excuse for them to let him go?

>>a move that bolstered speculation

Mm, same source that gave you the rumor of WODS flipping to talk, Jessica? :) Well it's
"speculation" at least

>>“I slept with virtually every young college girl I hired to be an intern..." (Jay)

Interestingly enough, in years gone by Jay portrayed himself on air as a swingin' young single
but he was married, middle aged, with a daughter. And when someone called in to Jay's
national show (which lasted about 9 months) on his first show, asking how his wife and
daughter were, Jay said, "I don't know what you're talking about" in a voice dripping with
elitism and defiance!

>>Severin’s show regularly ranked among the top 10, even five, in Boston — but that hasn’t been the case since the new electronic ratings system kicked in two years ago.

Howie's show ranked very well--#1--a couple yrs back; not sure how he's doing under PPM,
but there's Jay's rating.

Dan Kennedy (dankennedy.net): "Prediction: This time, he won’t be back. And few will care."

Mark S (via twitter): "His ratings are in a crapper, his salary is too high and his has two more years left on his deal. Do you smell what they're cooking? Payout." Mark predicted that IF (if...) they let Jay go they could prob carry Smerconish live middays, move Graham to pm drive then do another
syndie show post-Graham

>>It wasn't an intern

I'm trying to remember the circumstances of that. Did online search and so far all I've found was a B. Phoenix piece in which it's said he had a feud with Marjorie Clapprood and she 'may have had a hand in his departure', and when he got back on RKO he started to make fun of her on air. I do
remember the latter...so was it a producer not an intern?

There's a piece on Severin's suspension and it mentions TKK's dwindling ratings and the "fluff"
they seem to be running now--AND TKK was the only news/talk station not running Obama's speech
re: Libya, and the next day, Severin was talking sexual harassment, not the speech, etc. A comment posted on the column expressed disappointment with how TKK is these days.

>>Personally, I think Severino wants to be let go. He sounds defeated. The Bower "addition" being a killer

I worked at Greater Media when they owned WMEX. Rod Fritz was a great PD and put up a great line up but we were in a recession and sales couldn't find clients. Great programming plus low revenues means bye-bye. When revenues are less than great, Senior Management at Greater makes big moves. Severino's deal is around a million a year. Total station revenues are 6.4. Severino's ratings are much less than acceptable given the circumstances. My guess is that the lawyers are scanning the contract to try to twist his admittadly crass words into a contract violation and send him packing on the cheap.

Hire a guy to be edgy. When it doesn't work do what you have to to get rid of him.

Bower is indeed fluff. Nary a hard hitting topic.

I find it interesting that they suspended him after receiving complaints. Not because management found him offensive, no no. They needed to find out from complaints.

Severin is just another C list no-talent racist Rushie wannabe. Nothing more.

What is your obsession with Rush and how is he racist? Is everyone racist these days for speaking out?

That's offensive.
Funny line, but not acceptable. Sort of like a quip about punching a woman (who would do that).
