Independent covers Payola Scandal

The Independent Weekly covered the payola scandal this week.

http://indyweek.com/durham/current/cover.html

Mentions at the end of the story that G105 was involved. Anyone know details?

"...At WRHT 96.3 "The Hot FM" in Greenville, N.C., music director Blake Larson was fired the day after Spitzer released documents showing that Larson had raked in a $1,365 laptop, $900 in airfare and a PlayStation 2 from Epic, a Sony subsidiary..."

"...Other North Carolina radio stations were mentioned in the Sony correspondence, though not directly linked to pay-for-play arrangements: G105 in Raleigh, WEND in Salisbury, and WSTW in Wilmington, and several based out of state whose signals reach across the border, such as WFXH in Hilton Head, WFBC in Greenville, S.C., and WWST in Knoxville..."

Regarding the original question, many of the radio station promotions mentioned in Spitzer's evidence appear, at least on the surface, to be perfectly legal and normal promotional activities. Others, are totally over the top.

You can read the evidence for yourself and see the agreement reached at the following links:

Interesting. The chief recipient of the travel loot seems to be Donnie Michaels, ironically of WFLY in Albany.

Blake's girlfriend apparently knew about the payola, so that's probably a good thing for him. I'd hate to have to explain that to my wife. "Ummmm, sweetie? Remember that trip we went on? You liked that trip, didn't you?"
