WMXP-LP/95.5 FM, Greenville's new low-power radio station, is expected to be airing regularly July 4, according to the license holder.

Efia Nwangaza, who was granted the FCC license, said there were some problems with the station's dish that couldn't be resolved during the barnraising June 8-10, when the station was set up.

Volunteers will arrive at the station at 321 W. Antrim Drive on Sunday and work for a few days, she said.

"They'll put in a bigger, stronger dish and miscellaneous-type things," she said.

Nwangaza said there will be a reggae-rap-salsa party at the station for the Independence Day kickoff starting at 6 p.m.

I wish them the best of luck! It's an exciting process. Not many folks these days can say they've built a station from the ground up. Now they can!

I had an invite from Prometheus to help, but the parents were in town that weekend....
