independents picking up network shows in Milwaukee

I grew up in Chicago area but used to get Milwaukee station on cable amd am wondering what daytime castoffs were picked up on independents there. My local library microfilm tv guides listed 4,6, and 12 but not 18 and 24.I think I remember reading in tv guide that in 1987 WCGV 24 picked up Super Password and Wordplay and WVTV 18 picked up The Tonight Show and before WDJT 58 became CBS they picked up in the early 90s shows like Scrabble 1993, Scattergories, Ceasars Challenge, CBS Family Feud, John and Leeza, Match Game 1990. Were there any other daytime castoffs picked up on 18 and 24 back in the day?

Do you have access to either the Illinois-Wisconsin or
Northern Wisconsin edition of TV Guide? Both ran
Milwaukee listings, including 18 and 24; otherwise,
you might have to try The Milwaukee Journal.

Illinois-Wisconsin was carried in Milwaukee,
Madison, Rockford, and part of Chicago; it listed all
four markets. Northern Wisconsin served Green Bay,
Wausau/Rhinelander, LaCrosse/Eau Claire, and parts
of Milwaukee and Madison (IIRC, Marquette, MI was
also listed).

Marquette was listed in the Northern Wisconsin edition, and was also sold throughout the central UP, even though that area was in Eastern Time. Because of that, there were disclaimers reminding viewers that the Marquette stations were listed in Central Time.

In addition, Northern Wisconsin also carried listings for Detroit's WKBD until the mid-1990s.

At least dating back to the 1960s, there have to be quite a few shows that the Milwaukee network stations didn't carry, and WVTV was the only indepedent station in town until WCGV went on the air in March 1980. I remember seeing some retro Milwaukee listings showing 18 picking a few network shows from 6 and 12. However, if you lucky enough to live near the Chicago, Rockford, Madison, or Green Bay markets, I guessing whatever network shows Milwaukee didn't show at all, you could catch them on any of the out-of-town stations. You have to remember that mid-sized markets like Milwaukee, Kansas City, and others of similar size or smaller, they only had the Big Three and maybe an educational-PBS station, and a lot of these markets didn't get indepedent stations until the 1970s and 80s, and with the ever-increasing syndicated product each year, there wasn't simply enough room to air all the network shows plus the top syndicated shows available, if nothing else but for money.

I live in Northwest Chicago suburbs and started collecting and reading Illinois-Wisconsin tv guides around early 1987 when I was 8. My area library has Northwest Herald tv guides on microfilm, yet 4, 6, and 12 they have back to summer 1980, channel 18 not until summer 1986 and 24 in fall 1988. if you know any retro listings of 18 from about 1978-85 or 24 from 81-87, post them.
