Indianapolis Ratings

I see that WZPL is ruling the CHR format since they returned to it. I figured a new country station would bring down WFMS. Type in your search box Radio Online. They list them. http:// radio online.com. Click ratings.

At least WFMS hasn't fallen as far as WFBQ.

And we don't even have the demos for Q95.

Bad month for Cumulus, isn't it almost time for another format change with 93.9, as it continues to perform dead last among commercial FMs. A FM talk would be an interesting fit on that station.

Wonder if Hank can hang on to top spot for 2 or 3 consecutive months.

From a national ratings standpoint, could this be Clear Channel's weakest cluster? It's unusual to see so many other companies ranked ahead of them. I seem to remember them being a lot more dominate in Indy.

It could be. I can't think of a market where CC only has one station in the top 10 6+.

CC's Indy cluster has the same 6+ share as WLHK by itself.

93.9 has tried FM Talk once before and it failed. and with all the good shows for Right Wing talk is locked between WIBC and WFDM/WXLW Simulcast. the only thing they can try to get is 2nd and 3rd string conserve talker or go for Liberal talk with Miller, Schultz, Hartmann, Rhodes. but usually it seems Lib talkers are always destined to fail.

so really you cant go FM talk on 93.9 with 93.1 and 95.9 already doing it. They really cant go sportstalk on 93.9 since between ESPN on 1070/107.5, Fox Sports/NBC Sports on 1260 and CBS on 1430. that leaves just Yahoo Sports or all live & Local (is their enough guys that arent on 1070/1260 to staff a 24/7 Local on the station) for 93.9

Cumulus has made some stupid moves, like firing the best known longest lasting country jock in the city, leaving him open to join Emmis.

It almost seems as if Clear Channel abandoned Indy, with cuts so deep there's almost nobody home at the stations. Maybe they are counting on Bob & Tom to carry the cluster.

ZPL is back to something closer to a straight-ahead chr instead of the softer thing they had tried for a few years, and it's working.

93.9 shouldn't have dumped the talk format so fast. There are a few things now available in Indy, like Dennis Miller & Alan Combs, but they probably wouldn't drop any more $$ for a format change.

Duh! Maybe Cumulus should flip 93.9 to Classic Country. Shave a 3 or 4 off 97.1. Then, WFMS goes back to the top. Golly, Jeepers. Now where's my $75,000 consulting fee for this brilliant idea?
Anyway, that's what they should and likely will do. Is this surprise, surprise, surprise?

12+ FMS is down, Core Demos FMS is still on top. Hank does well Women 18-34 and Women 18-49.

Cumulus didn't have a bad month in sellable demos.

Wait until they have to start airing sports again...kiss of death for a music station.

With 107.5 now in the mix, maybe they will leave Hank
alone.
while 107.5 has a good signal for a translator. it still doesnt have the foot pattern that Hank FM has with its signal. im still Shocked that the one time when the Pacers and Butler and IU all were on at the same time and the pacers got stuck on 107.5 im shocked the pacers didnt have a cow with being stuck with the losing end of the 3 sticks that day since butler got 1070 and IU was on 93.1

IU is always on Hank. When the Pacers and Butler conflicted Butler moved to 93.1 normally. One time I believe Butler was on Hank but I could be wrong. I can't remember a Butler / Pacer conflict after 107.5 signed on the air.

Colts games=cume
Any sports = music audience all leaving....especially the convenience stores where the radio is hard to get at. Once that radio goes back to WFMS, it will stay there for a very long time. Sports on a music station is like the local Shell station closing the gas pumps for 3 hours here and there to sell fresh veggies. The 35 people who buy the veggies will love it. The 10,000 people who buy gas there in a month will find a new place that always has gas.

It's of course best to be consistent, but IF you have a high demand mass appeal item like Colts games, it can pump up the station's cume, and some of that cume might turn into tsl. Having said that, there seems to be way too much sports on the radio now, but if there's money there, that's the way it will be.

What about the Days before Emmis got exclusive broadcast rights to the IMS Radio network broadcasts of the Indy 500 and BRickyard 400. I remember when besides 950, 1070, 1260, 1430 on AM airing the IMS Broadcasts. 93.1, 94.7, 95.5, 96.3, 97.1, 99.5, 103.3, 104.5, 106.7, 107.9 at one point in time also aired the IMS BRoadcasts on FM over the years. and at that time all those stations were music stations. where did the music audience go when the same formatted station that was the rival station was also airing the race.
