Indy 107.9 format change?

99.5 ZPL has moved to CHR/M, seems to make sense to move 107.9 NTR to HotAC to gather that mother/daughter coalition better. i94 is prime to be put to pasture (again) by this move.

Do you think ZPL has a chance to be #1? Could Hank and FMS knock each other out to 2nd and 3rd? What's working for Z?

Great news for wyxb as they likely pick up a point or more. Bad news for wrzx and the anemic Clear Channel Indy.

They might go classic hits featuring 60's through 80's since that does good in the PPM ratings.

That's what they've been doing essentially since The Track. I know they played some 90s and current stuff, but the majority of songs they played were from the 60s to the 80s.

I wonder if Entercom would put CBS Sports on 107.9 as WXNT-FM?
that be a bit confusing though with the fact WFNI is on 107.5 (W298BB) Now. to have 2 sports stations right back to back on the dial. and if that were to happen. it force Clear channel to get WNDE on FM as well but CC doesnt have a translator like Emmis does. so CC would have to blow out Q or X to pasture to put NDE on 94.7 or 103.3.

Definitely some similarities to the old ZPL. They are even using the "Today's Best Music" positioner. I have noticed a fair amount of artist overlap with ZPL.

Was this a defensive maneuver? Certainly bears the hallmarks of one. Were there rumblings that Clear Channel was planning to flip 103.3 to some sort of Hot AC or CHR format?

The other obvious question -- how much longer will i94 cling to life? Would be nice to see some sort of rock format on that frequency. The gap between Q95 and X103 is a mile wide, musically speaking.

Certainly makes sense. Entercom now has the CHR/M & HotAC market locked down, CC has the rock market, RadioOne has the Urban & CHR/R (what NOU basically is) market, Cumulus missed the boat on cornering the Country market, and Emmis seems to be claiming the Talk/Sports. Indy has become a very defensive market...little to no real multi-company competition. The only real exception is country (Cumulus vs Emmis).

I don't know what's next for 93.9 - could EDM be an option? Oldies?

EDM is very unlikely and nobody wants to try to sell oldies. 107.9 is closer to zpl than they are to 93.9. If Cumulus put any variation of country on 93.9 they'd pull audience from wfms.

It didn't hurt wfms back when 104.5/93.9 was country in the late 90's. If it would hurt fms. It will also hurt hank as much if not more towards emmis

I've heard it both ways, one being that the reason The Bear was put out to the then worthless 93.9 pasture is because with a 5.5 share, it was starting to hurt WFMS. I miss the Bear...Top 40 Country was a great format.

Susquehanna put the bear on 104.5 after they bought the old WAJC from Butler to prevent an attack on WFMS i remember that because my guess is at the time they feared an attack on WFMS from one of the other companies in the mid 90's

Even with essentially 4 CHRs in the market now, Entercom should win because they have 50% of them, and theirs are full power. By that same philosophy, maybe Cumulus would benefit by having 2 countries as opposed to Emmis having one.

That was the story I had heard from a member of the airstaff. It was around 1998 that 93.9 The Bear had an ad that said something to the extent.....

You're not taking into account that the ownership has changed. When 93.9 was country, they programmed it in such a way as to not do too much damage to WFMS. With Cumulus' one size fits all philosophy, there's no way to adjust for those differences. A flanker on 93.9 would likely do more damage to FMS than it would Hank.

Your idea isn't wrong, and with a different (better) operator, it could work, but not with Cumulus.

That was on a crappy 3KW signal that barely reached
Danville. With the upgrades, still nothing.
It couldn't be the programming...??!!
