Indy 500 Moving To NBC After 54 Years On ABC

You obviously haven't watched the Super Bowl over the last XV years or so. And while auto racing in general is having problems, the 500s at both Indy and Daytona ar head and shouldrs above the rest of their series.(NASCAR needs to downsize, Indy has been doingso).

This may have changed but when I lived in Indiana, there would be all the May happenings, and the race, but nobody cared where these drivers were racing next week.

Kind of like the rest of the professional eating tour before and after that July 4 event at Coney Island.

Any horse races before or after the three Triple Crown races have gotten to be that way, but there used to be much greater public awareness of the other events on the thoroughbred calendar, but that was almost five decades ago. Has the general public EVER cared about the cars and drivers on the Indy Car circuit outside of that one day in late May?

You are correct. The last Stupid Bowl I watched was about 20 years ago. Have not watched any NFL game since then. They are boring, predictable and exhibit mistakes and social pablum that is well outside what should be the professional game.

Indy isn't what it once was and most likely will never be again. Daytona is a restrictor plate race which tells you all you need to know about boring.

It was several years ago that whatever category the Indy 500 was in wasn't even as popular as the other type of racing that didn't involve cars that look sort of like what we drive. One of them is called CART and I forget what the other one is.

Someone messed up for the second year in a row. I looked at a certain newspaper's weekly TV section. Episode summaries are the same in all the papers that get their information from this source. There was some event on May 19 and it was described as being THE Indy 500. On ABC (or was it supposed to be on ABC this year too?). The same thing happened last year.

The other one is the organization that survives today, IndyCar. I believe CART gave up the fight and merged back into IndyCar some years back. The move was disastrous, robbing the 500 of many of its most recognizable names.

To everyone who thinks Indy hasn't changed: I hope you watched the telecast today and noticed the plethora of empty seats and big empty areas in the infield.

I won a few bucks.

Danica went out in style (crashed in the corner and finished 30th). Now we can finally talk about something else.

What they were referring to last weekend was the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, run on the road course at IMS.

She did get a lot of mileage (so to speak) out of one win -- and that one coming on the other side of the world in an event few people watched anywhere -- didn't she? It was a milestone, yes, but the hype that followed her career long afterward was revolting.

IndyCar was just as culpable as Danica and her sponsor were in the publicity department although I do seem to remember Janet Guthrie got excess media coverage when she raced. Shirley Muldowney was a media blitz as well in NHRA. Things might have worked out better for Danica had she stayed in IndyCar instead of trying to race with the Good Old Boys.

Actually, I didn't take the time to find the listings where all the channels were and not just the "Best Bets". The Best Bets had it wrong, but where all shows were listed, it said qualifying for the Indy 500.
