Indy Antenna Farm(s)

Hello:I recently saw a post that mentioned an "antenna farm," in Indy. I am aware of a location or two, in and around Indy, where many transmitters are located. Specifically, where is this "antenna farm" (and any other Indy and near-Indy-based antenna farms) and whose transmitters are there?Thank you.--Bomba

There is a large one at 79th and Township Line. I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong, but I think the following are at this site.WFBQ, WRZX, WNTR, WRTV, WISH, WHMB and WXIN. WHMB is currently building a new tower next to their old one.

It was my understanding that WRTV and WISH shared a tower site on Post Road with WFMS and WJJK...LIN-TV has a map of WISH's towers available. I'm just not sure if it is Post Road or 79th and Township that is their current primary broadcast site. There is a 600 foot tower on the west side just south of Geist...any idea who occupies that one?

WNOU, WFMS and WYXB are located on a 1000 foot tower (WYXB at the 500 foot level) on south Post Road. WZPL used to be located there, but moved across the street to a 500 foot tower on the old WISH TV transmitter site. There are three towers down there. 2-1000 foot towers and the 500 footer. Emmis owns the tower (northernmost 1000 footer) with WNOU, WFMS and WYXB. WLHK has a backup transmitter there. NOAA weather radio operates off that tower. The other 1000 foot tower, the old WISH tower is empty. The two tower array 1000 ft and 500 ft used to be the transmitter site for 1310 AM, until that was moved to the Harding and Troy area. The WRTV tower has always been up with the others behind St. Vincent. All the TV stations located there so the Cable companies could point in that general direction for receiving. WTHR still operates at 96th and Ditch.WJJK tower is on Butler University land (Practice Intra Mural fields) just east of Michigan Road and North of 42nd Street.WISG Tower is located at 38th and Mithoffer. (might be the Tower you are referring to as West of Geist) Self supporting steel-non painted with strobes.WLHK Tower is Southport Road and Post Road areaWKLU tower is on west side of Indianapolis just north of Ben Davis High School. Similar in look to the WISG Tower.

WISH-TV moved their transmitter site to the north side, I believe in the early 90s. One interesting quirk in that move, I remember reading a story that their broadcast signal was on a harmonic for automatic garage door openers, and they had to provide filters for residents in the area to halt the unwanted opening and closing of their doors.

WLHK Tower is Southport Road and Post Road areaSince Post Road never meets Southport Road [Post ends just south of I-74], you meant Southport and Franklin Road. It's on the south side of Southport between Franklin and Five Points.

WLHK main antenna is on Southport Road. Back up antenna is off Post Road.

cell tower?

I'm sure this has nothing to do with the antenna farm(s), but has anyone else noticed poor cell reception in the past few days in the northwest corner of Marion County? My sprint service is barely receiving in my home, and a friends' Cingular service went to roam in my neighborhood in the Eagle Creek area.

I'm thinking maybe a tower was damaged? Not due to today's storms however, this has been noticeable since Friday.
