Isn't it all about RELEVANCE?

hey no matter what format you are doing, if you're WINNING you're RELEVANT.

And if you spent 20 years in the game in Indy, you surely aren't naive enough to think that 12+ matter for anything but a beauty contest.

and if your station is #1 12+ you will be beautiful in the right demo's... but if you're UGLY 12+ you're gonna be ugly across the board.
12+ is like when the Doctor takes your temperature, how's your overall health? it is a pretty good indicator of your stations "Overall" health, nothing more nothing less. and after all its all about who has the MOST listeners isn't it?

No, it isn't.

It's about who makes the most money.

Ratings are only a tool to help reach the goal, not the actual goal.

seems like a lot of radio "guys" writing. "radio guys" are like the T rex. No doubt the Ho is right. There's is plenty of opportunity in Indianapolis for very successful radio. Innovative programming can be created, revenue can be created. Find the biggest problem provide the biggest solution cash the biggest check. I am I have.

if you've found a way to 'Make the Most Money" with at 0.8 share, write a book, you will be a millionaire!
and i will buy it.

I've seen and worked for enough stations that come in 11th or pull low 12+ numbers that still do great in their target demos and make gobs of money.

I have also seen and worked for stations that are Top 5 12+ that can't sell enough to make their own payroll.

Ratings are lovely; they don't buy groceries.

Lots of factors have to be considered. After all, what IS profit? If you've invested millions in equipment, real estate, staff, etc, then you have a large nut to cover. Odds are, a station with a 0.8 isn't costing as much to operate.

name them?

they should fire the sales manager and sales staff.

in YOUR parallel universe, where exactly is that?

OK, WRITE THAT BOOK!, there are alot of stations in the basement waiting for a bailout.

Maybe it's the way the stations are (mis)managed? Or is it the listeners' fault?

"Where have all the radio teachers gone? Long time passes! Where have all the radio teachers gone, so long ago????" "The answer my friend is the blowing out of 'cookie-cutters' in the wind"..... Oh for the Vegas style risk takers on presentation.... I can't share my secrets too much... I want to try them, again, soon... Should have never left the full time side of the biz, when I did.... I am seeing some things come true, I thought would, going back as far as 15 years ago...

No, it just means I am sick of yours. It's clear that you have never sold, never had to make payroll and never had to pay the bills. Or if you have, you didn't do it very well.

Go back at look at the flip of 104.5 -- Top 5 12+ station + not billing worth a crap = format change.

Look at WZPL -- routinely hangs around 9-11 in 12+ ratings = hits key demos hard = bills well = success.

Seeing the N_D_ reminds me to ask: Is my infamous Notre Dame friend Russ Dodge still running the Hispanic FM/AM cluster in Indy? How are they doing ratings/revenue wise?

ratings for spanish radio..................suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks

revenue for spanish radio...................ultra suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks

rumor has it ownership is really pissssssssssssssssssssssssed

wouldn't it be better to sell more than the one narrow demographic ZPL has? and wouldn't it be fair to say that a #1 or #2 station 12+ is spreading their influence on more than ONE lonely demographic? like i've said here, 12+ may be a beauty pagent and nobody buys those numbers, but it tells me that a station is getting listeners spread across a wide array of demographics, probably OWNING one and winning or very credible in several others, so as for the overall health of a station its a quick snapshot, then dig deeper and see what you have, and you will simply have more listeners by virtue of numbers across the spectrum IF you are in the top tier of 12+ stations.
now if you can make a living selling 1 demographic cell, good for you, i would rather have many.

in the case of 104.5, FMS sucked all the air out of the building over there, and the sales department ignored or didn't understand how to sell the 25-54 35+ demos, or they found selling FMS was easier, so they did.

and by the way ND, anybody ever tell you...You're Touchy :p chill, dog!
