Indy PPM's

Am I the only one who thinks it's ironic that WLHK was diluted down so frequently with sports that all sports WFNI AM beat them in the PPM's? Back to my basic argument...I don't care how great your gas station is, if you close it for a few hours here & there and sell fresh veggies instead of gas, no one is going to take you seriously for gas...or veggies. I sure hope that those sportscasts netted them enough to compensate for having to now sell a 3.2 share radio station. Maybe someday it will sink in that music stations are most successful when they play all music. It's a radical idea but it might just work.

Is the WFMS drop related to anger over JD Cannon being shown the door?

Congrats to WYXB for dethroning WFMS. It shows that it's the music that matters. They don't do anything out of the ordinary or special. Their air talent is average. That's the music people listen to at work. It's what's being played in businesses.

I wonder how WTPI would have fared in this PPM world. I'm sure it would have done just as well.

If you really look at the rankings, you'll see that PPM gives a more appropriate sample of the listening audience. It's so far ahead of the diary system. Stations that had no business being in the top five were there because of all the diary's faults.

Again, good job Emmis and WYXB.

Congratulations to B105.7. I'd be worried if I worked on Shadeland. If WFMS slipped, it's because someone doesn't know how to properly execute the brilliant battle plan put together by the omnipotent Jan Jeffries.

"omnipotent" Jan Jeffries or "impotent" Jan Jeffries. You gotta wonder about the decisions lately.

Depends on whether you work for Cumulus or not. He's only omnipotent until he fires you and replaces you with himself.

The month you are seeing was with J-D. Now that he's gone, it should assure WFMS continuing to downfall. Always remember someone in Atlanta knows what Indiana folks like to hear. Hoosiers are just hicks in the eyes of Atlanta and the Dickless brothers.

Their Chief Engineer left this week. Let's see...they had the same Chief for decades until Cumulus came to town...now it's a revolving door. Wonder when the morning show's contract expires?

Notable that WYXB has the highest rated web stream too. WIBC is second, although I suspect Cumulus's stations are not encoding their streams for PPM.

Could this be the beginning of the end?

Where will Country radio listeners go? Hank?
Only if they get rid of the sports. Columbus has KORN 100.3 and WKKG 101.5 doing country...Johnson/Shalby Counties could readily align themselves with that market.

I wonder why a station wouldn't encode as the equipment is free. I don't know where you go to check this.

The demise of FBQ is even more striking and no one's commented about it. I don't believe I can ever recall a time where their weekly share was in the 5 range [5.2 in March] and out of the top 5 stations in the market. The cume is still very healthy, but obviously they are not the P1 station they were thought to be for decades.

Also interesting to see:

1. KLU [EMF] K-Love consistently growing month-by-month, and approaching levels The Song enjoyed - still obviously a market for CCC format, even one that's live national syndication. I can't imagine the national morning show originating here makes all that much difference.

2. FDM also with steady growth month-by-month, with FM syndicated national talkers, and less than optimal signal in the market [although some of this at the moment is being late to the encoding game in the first place]. I'm not sure most of us would have expected they were capable of even 70,000 weekly cume, but there they are.

3. XLW numbers on a slow, steady climb [even though its still a small universe] - again late to the encoding game and that might be part of it. I'll bet the Indians did them a favor by moving their play-by-play to NDE; even though they'll miss the money for clearance, their ratings are bound to improve. Seriously, other than the money, why in God's name would Clear Channel agree to take that programming on?! AAA Baseball?! Practically every hard core fan has a Victory Field ticket, and most of the rest of the crowd are families out for a fun evening once in a while, but couldn't give a rats ass about listening to play-by-play of AAA ball.
