Is the 'new car smell' wearing off JACK already??

The latest number are just a trend. Wait until the end of October for the real numbers to come out.

It ought to be. The "jack" format is all over the road with the types of music it plays. The technical term is "hodge podge".

The anticipated huge Jack audience is being jacked in part by WKLU. WKLU is headed for a 6 share.

agreed... they sound good

Re: WKLU

I try to listen with an open mind but I think they sound the same as before Russ came to town. Obscure album cuts. Better imaging and better talent, but still they play some real obscure stuff.

seems to be doing just fine with obscure cuts....Russ wouldn't have gotten those numbers in a million years

Obscure seems to be the word in radio these days.
There are Jack clones all over America doing well, and AC's/Hot AC's, Country, and others are going from 300 song playlists to 1000-1500 songs or more.
After years of playing the same over-researched 300 songs over-and-over, things are changing... at least for now.
Buzznet (the guys who 'invented' Jack) woke up the media showing that variety is the spice of life. But in a year or two, someone will come to the conclusion that if you eliminate the "mediocre" (not really the word I was looking for but my meaning is, songs that we didn't play 2 years ago), and play only songs that test well in your target demo, you will clobber the competition.
As for now, I'm enjoying listening to the radio again (even when I'm not working).

Re: WKLU

What a Wonderful World...

If they could just find a way to eliminate pushy salespeople, non caring management, new technology with no FCC mandate - IBOC (In Band Next Channel), contest pigs, stalkers (play misty for me), how many arbitron books a year, BMI and Ascap logging, inept consultants, jocks that puke (Heeeeeey how ya dooooin todayyyyy?), and other inventions of our new and improved radio days wouldn't it be great????

Re: WKLU

There's nothing obscure about Jack..it's wide, but not deep. Everything they play was a hit. It's the illusion of being deep and unresearched, but its not.
