Indy Voice Talent Tom Woody Passes Away

Tom Woody passed away September 24th at age 62 while visiting his family in Ft. Myers Florida. Tom had been in poor heath for the past year and died of complications of liver and heart disease.

He is survived by his daughter Laura.

A memorial service will be held in Indianapolis next month.

Tom was most recently seen in the Emmy Award winning Naptown Rock Radio Wars.

I'm speechless...and sad beyond words. We worked together at WENS nearly 30 years ago...an experience I enjoyed and will treasure all the more now.

I'm sure BOTJ will agree...Gawd, what a voice!

I'm shocked by this news. Tom was one of those voices that we all wanted to sound like - once we grew up. Though none of us ever quite made it. What a unique, clear tone. His interpretation was always perfect. Amazing pipes.

In that studio on Hawthorne Lane, Tom was the first person to really work with me on the techniques of audio production...and I'll always be thankful. My interest in production and voice-over was inspired in good part by Tom.

And the memories...

Creative with Tom's slightly skewed sense of humor with contributions from guys like Rick Cummings, Gary Rozynek and Jim Culbertson. The annual audio track to the Christmas Party slide shows. His love of the WENS Skyconcert...and the pre-show tribute Tom did with Gene Olsen the year Tim McKee passed. Tom's production of McKee's operatic style parody of Born to Be Wild. The air staff dinner with the new program director at some restaurant on the Circle, when Tom, bold as brass, asked about the religion of the new PD. We quickly found out that our new boss was Lutheran. I seem to recall hearing Tom play everything from Bluegrass on WSMJ to Classical on WICR.

In the past few years, we've lost some of the great voices of Indy radio...Chuck Riley, Billy Moore and now Tom Woody.

He will be missed.
