The yellow pages lists a WHTJ 1690am radio station at 3737 N. Meridian - phone 924.9485

What is this station

The only 1690am I've ever heard of is in Chicago

As I prefer AM radio (see screen name here) im curious about this station

Apparently some sort of low power unlicensed operation that probably covers every bit of a city block...there is no record of it in the FCC databases, here's their website if you'd like to contact them or make a prayer request.

Our engineers told me about this station several months ago. It goes about
1 to 2 miles on a good car radio.
The FCC will let people do some low power broadcasting on AM. You are allowed
one tenth watt into 10 feet of antenna. You are not limited by field strength as
long as it is home brew equipment. And there are some technical tricks to make
it get out pretty good that are legal without a license.
