iNews 880 question

iNews 880 is now on the air in Edmonton.
Everything sounds great.
Very professional sounding indeed.

But...why 17 minutes?

The claim is "Give us 17 minutes...we'll give you the world."

I thought the standard for a news wheel is 20 or 30 minutes.

It just seems like an unusual choice to make.

From what I understand, and have read on other message boards (radiowest.ca) after the 17 minutes of news, there is a feature story or report that is aired that takes a more in depth lo0k at something local that's happened or happening. That would fill out the remaining time of every hour. I saw a graph that made it lo0k like a 30 minute format. Outside of WINS I can't think of any other all news station that isn't at least a half hour cycle.

680 news Toronto used to be "30 minutes of news every 30 minutes" in 1993, but changed to 20 minutes of news every 20 minutes shortly after.
