Hmm.. I checked the Infinity jobs and they still seem to want MIX people for AE's and interns, but then again...

Funny that the "FORMAT" field on the all WJHM (102 Jamz) positions is currently reflected as "GOSPEL" ..

Would Infinity really try to squeeze another Latin station into the "Mix" here, so to speak?

No they won't. 105.1 would go "Jack" way before Spanish. That listener pie is already split pretty thin. First you've got 98.1 and 100.3 going head to head, then you've got the English stations that share some of the same audience including 95.3 and 101.9. I think Infinity will wait to see what happens in Tampa Bay with sisters La Nueva 92.5 and Wild 98.7 before making a dramatic move in Orlando. The other side of the coin is if Mega sells off 98.1 to a Salem or something else in English. Then Rumba might get some new competition.

Orlando

WOMX is strong right now- a chance would be foolhardy. WMMO has most of Jack's potential listeners covered and satisfied (they're #1 in adults). Few open holes down there, it appears. If ANYBODY ought to re-think their position it's WHTQ-
what a d-o-g. They must be doing OK in billing.

Orlando is one not only one of the fastest growing markets in the nation, but also one of the fastest growing Hispanic markets in the nation. As such, I wouldn't be surprised to see another full market FM Spanish station pop up, especially since La Nueva doesn't cover the entire market too well.

As for which station would make most sense for such a switch, I used to think it was HTQ, but their ratings are finally up.
Mix 105 has very solid demos, and has a heritage factor going for them - they've held onto the same format since around 1991. I don't know why they'd tinker with that kind of success.
That pretty much leaves Power 95.3 and 105.9 O-Rock. Power 95.3 is already a Hispanic-dominated station. If its ratings continue to slide, a move to a Spanish CHR, or to a Hurban, might prove successful.
105.9 O-Rock is about to lose Howard, and might be contemplating bailing out of the Rock format altogether.

Yeah Russ, if you go to the Infinity corp site, and lookup jobs in Orlando's market...(or just WJHM-FM) all the current positions intended for 102 Jamz have "Format: GOSPEL" on them in the individual descriptions.

(I will say they're also now using a national "Monster.com" affiliated job bank type site, so this is an obviously some sort of oversight by whoever is in charge of entering the data for the system over there.)

What makes you say that?

I'd hate to lose O-Rock...they have tweaked the format a little and sound much better than Real Rock. I have been hearing songs that I haven't heard on alternative radio in years. I don't care for Stern though..or that insufferable LoveLine...ughh.

I think WOCL has three months to live. I mean why wouldn't the next change happen there? Who's going to hang onto a station playing second fiddle to another 'rocker when the format's in decline as it is? I know people say Jack probably isn't going to work because of 98.9 being around, but WWMO isn't Infinity. I say Infinity will try "what's next" when they see the chance.

Ahhh, I just thought of Mix as I wrote all that, but then I don't know.. I don't think Infinity would want to get rid of Mix. WOCL has been an experimental format of sorts ever since COOL went away, right?

?Como?

You make it sound like WNUE is the only Spanish game in town....I think you forgot 100.3, and they're Spanish now, with a full signal (licensed to Orlando itself, to boot), and eating a buffet lunch in the ARBS....I don't know what you mean by "weak fm spanish stations", and I don't even think you're in this area as it seems you're throwing a heavily speculative wrench. It doesn't seem to me 2 can be supported, much less 3 (I could be wrong). Infinity has obviously been sitting on OCL for very long, which has been the subject of countless rumors but no action.
