Infinity Should of Done What They Did In Sacramento

Infinity Sacramento used the current station Howard is on and flipped it to Jack-FM at 10:00 am. Now what if Infinity did that in New York City with 92.3 WXRK and flipped it to Jack-FM right after Howard's show. This way Infinity could of left WCBS 101.1 alone. But then would Mix 102.7 be getting better ratings if this happened. I think this should make an interesting talk.

It wouldn't make sense to have both JACK and WCBS. WCBS would eventually need to trample all over JACK's music to stay in the demos advetisers want.

CBS made the right move long-term for CBS-FM, the current ratings tumble is only short-term. 101.1 will be makin more money long-term that CBS-FM would be in the future. Having a format that advertisers want to spend money is essential for a radio station to be truly successful.

Well, they won't do anything that we talk about here, because then it won't be a suprise. Here's something that would be fun to see.
It might be interesting to Re-launch 101.1 as a speficially positioned Classic Dance station (I don't think the name "Mix" fits the format that they are using on 102.7). Then, they could re-launch CBS FM on 102.7, only this time, with the type of newer muic that Jack Plays.

That way, everyone is happy (except you Traditional Oldies folks who want to hear Buddy Holly 3 times a day).

Agree 100%. I think it's going to need some tweaking to NYC-it-up and it WILL need some personnalities, but the foundation's right.

JACK, NYC. will fail

Actually that may hold true in other markets but the JACK in NYC. needs some serious tweaking in order to pull in any numbers, advertisers and money. It's way to whitebred too sell here with their bland suburban small market rock format.
Advertisers in NYC. won't spend money on a format made for the midwest the same way they won't spend it on a country station here.
JACK, NYC will fail miserably.

Tweaking the music and adding personalities, doesn't that completely change the foundation? I think so... An I-Pod on shuffle wouldn't have jocks!

As a listener I dont think Jack is a bad formatt, whats wrong with something different in NYC?He plays alot. of audience saying they like the station,so why is it going to flop so bad?WNEW 102.7 MIX got initial bad ratings, give it a chance.

Well WNEW also had a revolving door of formats. CBS-FM just plummeted, JACK is LAST, and there are a couple of big reasons its failing...

1) They killed a strong billing station with a VERY dedicated audience.
2) Nothing about it feels NY, which is very cosmopolitan and urban.
3) It shares too many artists and titles with Lite, PLJ, and Mix.
4) JACK was rude and made fun of listeners, alienating a lot of people early.
5) Listeners in NY like News, Weather and Traffic updates for their commutes.

Not at all. The foundation is the next generation of oldies + wide variety. "I-pod on suffle" is just a positioner that some of the stations in the format use.

Well obviously their version of the next generation isn't the right generation or mix for NY, so I repeat my previous statement. <P ID="signature">______________
