Prior to June 3, NY was never without an oldies station. Ya just never know...

Perhaps, but you dont have to go very far to figure out Oldies overall is a fading trend. While Rock...(non classic) stations have hurt as well recently and thus many have tweaked playlists or approaches (including k-rock), Oldies continues to be on the shorter end of the stick.

Well...they killed off WNEW-FM, a few years ago, with this type of format, so now they are going to put it on an entire network? Dumb and dumberer...

It is a fact that WXRK-92.3's ratings outside of Howard Stern's morning show have long been quite low.

Without Stern, WXRK's ratings would probably plunge further. And many of Stern's other affiliates have the same problems: Huge morning ratings, but almost nobody listening after 10 A.M.

Hence, Infinity's initiative to launch "Free FM".

I expect it will be a talk network, but more "mainstream talk" and less "hot talk" or "extreme talk". It will, however, be targeted at a slightly-younger demographic than talk stations on the AM dial.
 
Obviously it's not what they care aboutas much, but if you look at WXRK's ratings in Nassau/Suffolk, they're always quite high....likely due to the larger propensity of alt/rock listeners in the LI suburbs....anyone think Infinity would care...or if they do flip it, that some station in LI would pick up the slack (maybe WBAB goes more new rock or 94.3 flips or something...)
