INFO ON RANE RPM 2M

I'm curious whether anyone is using the Rane RPM 2M as an AGC before the STL, possibly as an alternative to the Aphex Compellor. I spoke to the folks at Rane who said they *believed* that a few Clear Channel stations may be using them (Rane markets to the contractor market rather than the broadcast market).

I discovered this unit at a live venue. The level control was outstanding and very transparent. At first, I thought that someone was doing an excellent job riding the various levels but investigated and discovered that this box was doing all the work. Quite impressive....

The unit can be configured to perform a variety of functions through software "building blocks." Basically, one designs the system on a computer and them uploads the configuration into the box. The unit that I saw was configured to be a only a leveler; the building blocks were an AGC followed by a limiter.

Thanks!

In my alternate line of work, I have 30-35 Rane RPM processors deployed. Very nice units for the money and extremely reliable. If someone didn't need the configurable mic inputs or AES out, you could save a few bucks and get just the RPM-2. Fwiw, the 2m might be appealing as a dual-channel mic processor as well. To be honest, I've never thought about deploying one on the radio side. They are clean enough; and latency is pretty minimal as well. I have a spare 2m sitting in the office right now; might experiment a bit with the AGC a bit next week

Appreciate the info. Good thoughts on using the RPM 2 vs. 2M.

The unit I saw was using the AGC and limiter modules. Very nice level control. I'm curious how these would work on the radio side, possibly as an alternative to an Aphex.

If you experiment with the AGC, please post your evaluation. I'm definitely interested. Thanks!

Thanks dtube1. I downloaded the Drag Net software and played around with the AGC and limiter. Looks nice; however, I don't have a Rane box to load the configuration!
