Info on www.smoothjazz.com.pl?

For some time I have been listening to www.smoothjazz.com.pl and have found it to be an absolutely outstanding straight-ahead NAC audio service. No commercials, just music and liners - and the time in Poland. Any ideas what the background of this channel is? It sure sounds like it is programmed professionally.

ABQRADIO, someone else mentioned this stream on the board a few months ago, and I checked it out. Agreed. It is very well programmed. I find it interesting they use the smoothjazz.com domain, but sound nothing like "Big Brother". ;) I can't see them being in any way affiliated with each other, and that website of theirs has not changed at all since I first checked them out. Either way, I've always believed it's all about the music, and I like their presentation.

Programmed by Eric Foster, if that name rings a bell. Here's my theory, FWIW. I think these guys are based here and run their servers overseas to save $$$. Since smoothjazz.com has the domain locked up, they also chose a Poland-based domain address. But like I said, I would be absolutely stunned if these guys are in any way affiliated with smoothjazz.com in the US. I think it is FAR better programmed, no disrespect to my friends at sj.com

Interesting. A translation of vigormultimedia's website (which is in Polish) indicates it is essentially the Muzak of Poland. BTW, I got the name Eric Foster from one of their liners last night, so I am not sure where this guy fits in or where he is based. Not getting track data, though. Are you? Not a deal breaker for those who just listen to this format as "background music," but for hardcore guys who REALLY love this music, this is a problem. I know when I hear something I really like and cannot readily identify the artist by the tune's sound, I will not rest until I find out who it is, and a lot of my listeners are like this. And no matter how good the music is (even though I know or at least recognize almost everything I have heard), not knowing the track data is VERY frustrating---just like listening to Muzak in stores. :D So if the operator of this stream happens to troll this board, it might be something you want to consider as you go forward. ;D

AC, if you listen through Real Player - they now display the current song. I think this just started not too long ago because it didn't happen last time I listened.

I wrote about this stream a year ago after spending a week in Poland. This stream was on in many hotel lobbies and restaurants. Bartender told me more about it. They also have an app for your mobile device.

Nock

Couldn't get RealPlayer to work at all, but did get artist and tune listings using the iTunes/QuickTime player.

I listened to this stream for a while and they too play too much vocal bullshit like the rest of them. In my opinion, this is still the real reason great NAC stations went by the wayside.

ARE THERE ANY STREAMS OUT THERE THAT PLAY MINIMAL TO NO VOCALS??? ???

I don't know man, every time I've listened they have been playing some deep album cuts that usually don't get airplay. Pretty good station in my opinion, perhaps you caught them at a bad time.

During one set I heard a vocal from George Duke, Culbertson and Koz which all sounded like they could have come off the same CD. That same overplayed r n'b vocal crap I've heard for the past 10 years.

There's another stream that's out there plays a lot of the same tunes I can hear right on my radio at home that play the same cuts that thousands of soft hits radio stations currently spin that are burned out beyond recognition.

Not compelling radio whatsoever.

The ONLY programming that has impressed me since Jones left (and they weren't perfect) is cafejazz.ca (sadly the last season for Ted Hasiuk) Future Of Jazz with Chris, and Soundtraxx with Mark Stanley in that order. All three programs (a shame none of these are on the air 24/7) feature unknown tunes INCLUDING VOCALS that are truly different and unique.

Nobody else comes close.

I'll have to check these out more, I've listened to Cafe Jazz a little before and that is excellent.

You might be right.

Been listening all morning and not one vocal yet!!

Heard only a couple clunker vocals in the last couple hours, but otherwise, this is a very well programmed station. Just heard "Longing" from Chris Botti's First Wish CD. THIS is the kind of Chris Botti (mid to late 90s) I miss, and now I am hearing old school Nelson Rangell. FWIW, they look like they stream at four different bandwidths (192 and 128 mp3, and 96 and 48 AAC+). Also of note, there are at present only 115 listeners tuning in worldwide on all four streams. So if you REALLY like this station, get behind it and spread the word. If they plan on relying on any sort of sponsorship or ad revenue down the road to fund their operating costs, 115 listeners won't cut the mustard. It's a shame. Yet another example of radio being about not how well you do things, but how well you market it and who knows you are out there.

And of course right after my post I hear a bunch of mediocre r n'b vocal tracks :p

And goodbye to the.wav??? :'(

Damn, back to my old DMX contemporary instrumental tapes I guess!! :(

I have listened for a couple of days, and I like it. Its not the .wav, but it compares to what KOAI was back in the day for me. The top of the hour time checks are cool.

Bay Smooth Jazz on 1.FM has grown on me. I've heard a couple rare pieces on there, but it also sounds like there's not a ton of new music being added.
