Infomercial blocks on WMFP

azumanga said:
Of course, Me-TV's naming convention is usually "Me-TV [locality]", with "locality" being the state, city or region that the station is based in. In this case, it would be "Me-TV Connecticut" or, if they're focusing on New York City, "Me-TV New York (City)".

I think it may be a while before we see MeTV on WSAH. I went to the MeTv website and there is still no press release officially announcing WSAH. I read through some of the other press releases and it seems to be that the network launches about 1 month after the press release is issued.

right now on ch 62 there are paid programs so who knows what the schedule is going to be!!

So you know for FACT, not speculation, that MeTV is allowing WMFP (NJR/Titan) to run infomercial blocks on an ongoing basis (Not just temporary) in return for getting the main channel assignment and must-carry slot on the channel?

You think I wouldn't know? http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=201471.msg1795629#msg1795629

Perhaps you missed the thread where it was announced I work for RTV now. http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=202267.0

Regardless, wouldn't this comment also count as speculation?

It's got to be some sort of make-good/contractual issue

Why would you be allowed to speculate and nobody else?

In fact, aren't many of the comments on Radio-Info rampant speculation anyway?

Erf, I forgot you are working at RTV :)

In general, we do need more facts and info out here than speculation.

Just what do you know about whats going on at WMFP and the transition?

At 9am 62.1 WMFP switched to paid programming till 12pm. 62.2 started showing RTV at 9am , its seems they are showing the complete RTV schedule. Maybe the 12 hours of paid programming is now being split between the two. RTV used to be shown from 12p-12am with 12 hours of paid programming in between on 62.1. Now if they show the full RTV schedule on 62.2, then it will run from 9am-12am , that means 9 hours of paid programming from 12am-9am. So maybe ME-TV on 62.1 now , will just show the other 3 hours of paid programming 9am-12p , running the ME-TV schedule 12p-9am , which would mean only 3 hours of paid programming a day on ME-TV. Of course we won't know until a few days go by.

Well, as you can imagine I can't say a whole lot, or at least I'm not sure what I can or can't say so I'm going to err on the side of caution, but what I can say is:

1) 62-1 should be Me-TV mixed with infomercials.

2) 62-2 should be the RTV schedule in full.

...and it's nice to get the full national line-up of RTV finally!

It's kinda crappy that they didn't even both to tell viewers that RTV was moving over to 62.2! I can only imagine the thousand of viewers that arn't even aware it's just moved over.

I guess we shouldn't hold our breath for cable coverage?

Our hope is that enough viewers call Comcast and complain about it that it might get picked up, but it would be a pretty tall order.

From what i've seen so far , it appears that the ME-TV lineup on 62.1 on my Directv Guide data does not match what being shown .
The guide data shows infomercials 6am-9am /10pm-2am. But as of 4am this morning ME-TV was showing up until the present 8:30 am. Last night at 10p ME-TV stayed on until ????. I watched up until 11:30p , after that I don't know when the infomercials started up. Maybe 1 am till 4am ?? . Hopefully we'll get more of an idea in the next few weeks . I like the fact that RTV is on with the full lineup on 62.2. It gives me a reason to keep up my OTA antenna. I live in Western Ma. so these aren't offered on the cable here.
Trip , thanks for the info on the progress at RTV , it is still one of my favorite OTA channels.

Isn't NRJ/Titian management supposed to work on getting cable carriage for 62.2?

OR are the "rumors" true they only kept RTV on 62.2 to run out the current contract, and have NO intentions to work on getting cable carriage?

If I ran a cable system I would carry 9.2 to get the full MeTV Schedule and 62.2 for the full RTV schedule.
Carriage of 62.2 satisfies the must carry rule for 62.

I was watching WMFP 62.1 (MeTV) through most of the evening, last night. They ran the MeTV feed non-stop with standard "MeTV Boston" bumpers but broke away halfway through an episode of "The Untouchables" at 1:00 AM for...... you guessed it...... an informercial (BURRRRRRRR!). I was BULL***T! This was actually the first episode of this classic series and I was really getting into it. I had to go to WJAR 10.2 to be able to see the rest of the episode. Either the Master Control at WMFP was already programmed to break away regardless, or they thought..... hey, who's watching at this hour anyway?(You'd be surprised on who's watching, WMFP.....) Oh, well..... good thing WJAR 10.2 has a decent signal this way.

i actually like the metv schedule the way it is,instead of what my Comcast listings says!! According to that there 9hrs of infomercials, instead there's only 5 or 6, but i do wish they would have the whole schedule, but i can't complain too much since im either not home or asleep when they do occur!!

I can go you one better. Tonight I flipped on WMFP at 10:10p or so, just to see what was on. The Comcast listing said Paid Program but it was "Svenghoolie". I was happy but it turned to sadness a minute or so later when they jumped into the middle of an infomercial! What's going on with their master control?

There placement of infomercials make no sense. The listings on the guide for the infomercials times sometimes don't match. So you have to actually turn on the station to see whats on. And there have been many instances when a infomercial has come on during a show. What make no sense to me is infomercials on at 10 pm-12am at night. Most people would rather watch ME-TV programs. Lets hope they get this figured out real soon. I can get ME-TV full schedule via OTA antenna on WJAR 10.2 , but I like the fact that I can receive on WMFP on Directv ch. 62.

I honestly don't know how WMFP got the affiliation for MeTV in the first place. Part of Weigel's stipulation as an affiliate was that it cannot be a "Swiss cheese" schedule with infomercials all over the place with only partial MeTV shows. I hope they can get their act together. I TOO was BULL when they pre-empted "Svengoolie" with yet another infomercial within a couple of minutes into "The Car". Fortunately, I had DTV decoder handy to watch WMUR 9.2 through my DVD player. Too bad WHDH or WCVB didn't opt for MeTV on their subs. Oh well, too good to be true. Thanks WMFP. ;\

I can't imagine they wouldn't want 62-2 on cable as well. More room for infomercials, right?

I guess that depends on how desperate Weigel was to get a must-carry signal in Boston. Being on channel 17 or 20 on cable and 62 on both satellite systems, both DMA-wide, rather than channel 298 or 308 only on cable in New Hampshire... that's quite a bit of leverage. Not to mention the same factors for WSAH and the New York DMA.
