Infomercial on AN106.7?

There's a financial infomercial on AN106.7 right now. I think it's one of those paid programs that was on WGST. IS this going to be ongoing for AN106.7. No one listened to those shows on WGST, other than the extra revenue, why put this on an all news station?

In a "old time" journalism setting, news people do not do commercials, (except newscast tags), but one of the "tag teams (male and female news readers)" does. The Atlanta market can not support a "WINS" (real all news no sports) operation. This is all the market will support.

106 7 is nothing more than a place holder to run a ton of inventory and make more $ cash than oldies could despite poorer ratings, more power to them. Format change was never about filling a news need, getting ratings etc, almighty $ period.

Looking at the time of day, and realizing that it is Sunday, don't see anything all that disturbing about an informercial. If that is the time the "sponsor" wanted to buy, I say sell it. Think about it-- what are the numbers for 6-10 AM Sunday, no matter what the demo? Better to derive some revenue than have to pay for salaries and performance/air fees.

I used to have to produce three 30-minute PSA programs a week to fil a Sunday morning before the preachers came in at 7 until 11 when a church remote took over. If I could have slammed a cart into a machine and let it track rather than having to book, record, edit, then play them I'd have done it.

I think AN106 is doing just fine.

Now, what was that other station you mentioned ……?

The bills will be really hard to pay if they teach their loyal listeners that AN106.7 is "all news/traffic" some of the time. . . . .

I think they have invested a fair amount of money into having a well-produced product and quality on-air staff; it will be a shame if the end-game turns out to be "some news and traffic" when we can't otherwise sell the time. . . .

A while back, I suggested "News 106". It's easier to say and remember. Maybe they ought to say, "We're all news - when we're doing news." ::)

The occasional GT sports show, the GT games, infomercials. Slippery slope.
They were carrying this before the flip and are probably under contract to do so. This could be one of 92.9's first pick-ups after this season.

are probably under contract

It occurs to me that since this popped up the first Sunday in October, the informercial very well could have been a long aog purchased[contracted air time so give it a few weeks and it will go away.

You nattering nabobs of negativity -- back off a bit. They're doing a great job, alredy have Cox jumping (a bit). Let them mature. I'm certain WTOP didn't shoot to the top of the book within 120 days. Things are going to work out well for them.

Not so that other station down in the 600 kH frequency range. What was it called ????…

Firebird, you were indeed listening to a paid advertisement last weekend on All News 106.7 FM WYAY. Earlier this morning, I heard a radio promo for the new show called "Women With Options", and it's from the people who are over the show "Unconventional Wi$dom: The CSE Investment Show". Of course, the regular CSE Show is hosted by Joseph Hooper & Aaron Zalewski. The new "Women With Options" show is hosted by Joseph Hooper's daughter Cezanne Garlinghouse (sp?) along with her friend Joni Pittman (sp?). I apologize if I misspelled the ladies' last names. I don't know yet if All News 106.7 will pick up The CSE Investment Show since WGST flipped to ESPN Deportes Radio. "Women With Options", which got its start on WGST, will be airing every Sunday morning at 9AM on All News 106.7. Since WYAY is airing "Women With Options", The CSE Investment Show may very well wind up on All News 106.7. Basically, The CSE Investment Show is the male-oriented investment show while "Women With Options" is the female version of the CSE Investment Show.

OMG!

It is the end of All News 106.7! They've sold out. They've caved! Management couldn't take the pressure! They've abandonned the format! Who cares that WBBM runs infomercials, they were'nt supposed to do it in Atlanta! Not after WGST did it!

We're doomed. Prepare for them to flip to all infomcercials by 11/1, to try and get a jump o the audience shift as the All Christmas music begins.

Will everybody just calm down! Give them a break; give it six months, the contract with CSE (or whoever) expires, and things are back to what we anticipated.

Mike Ra fone: The Ga Tech broadcasts were carried over. Marshall Adams wanted to park them on another Cumulus station but was unsuccessful.
The infomercials are another story entirely and precisely the reason Marshall left. They are not going away... in fact there will be more of them in the weeks ahead. Don't be suprised if Sunday 5a-11a and perhaps a large chunk of Saturday mornings are paid block programming with inserts for news headlines, traffic and weather before very long. Marshall put a very good infrastructure in place for the station; a lot depends on who gets the nod as his replacement, but that person will be fighting a losing battle on this issue.

Marshall is a great guy and really knows his stuff. He was doing what was right for the station. Cumulus is doing what's right for their bottom line. They should have NEVER committed to "all new"s if they were not planning to stay "all news." The station needs to be renamed NOW. Otherwise, smart listeners (and news listeners are pretty smart) will know they are being lied to.

The problem with carrying infomercials on an all news station is that most infomercials have a news FORMAT which can mislead the listener. I would really have a problem with that if I were Program Director trying to keep my station sounding credible.
