Infomercial "Roadblocking" on Four TV Stations in Same Area

For some reason I do enjoy those Time Life music collection infomercials probably because of the old video clips of artists that I never seen before.

I thought I was the only one! ;D I've never bought any of them though.

Actually ABC has run shows that they're burning off on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, like Wipeout (Which could probably be considered semi-sports) and Million Dollar Mind Game, ...

Wipeout isn't a burn-off, it's still doing well on Thursdays. Good night... and Big Balls!

However, they have used that slot to reair early episodes of some shows, such as "Whodunnit?" and "The Bachelor/Bachelorette". Good place to do it, though the promotion of the block is non-existent. Saturdays, by the way, are usually reserved for ESPN Sports Saturday when there's no event on the schedule - or time permits.

surprised stations aren't already pre-empting that filler programming with infomercials, maybe ABC gives it to them for free

I see a lot of the infomercial exercise gear at Dick's

First, I'm reminded of the old Yogi Berra line about a restaurant. He said nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded. If nobody bought from infomercials, they'd go away. Even if a block of infomercials gets virtually no ratings, someone must be buying the products. I wish we could all make a pact that none of us would buy anything from infomercials. But I guess the people I want to reach aren't listening to me.

Second, I notice WGME-TV 13, the CBS affiliate in Portland ME, owned by Sinclair, runs infomercials all weekend whenever CBS doesn't have network programming on, except late at night. They do have a 6pm and 11pm newscast on weekends. And after 11:35pm, they do find some programming to run, even reruns of Judge Judy at 1am or 2am. But from around 3am Saturday till 2am Monday, it's mostly infomercials.

It makes me wonder why CBS and ABC run overnight news only Sun.-Thurs. If they ran overnight news on weekends as well, these local affiliates would run those shows. Same goes for weekend network sports. Why doesn't CBS have sports every weekend afternoon hour, all year? Surely there's some car race or tennis or golf event going on somewhere. Or even a college baseball or lacrosse or swimming event. Isn't it better for a network to be running SOMETHING than going dark for those weekend hours?
