Infomercials on AZ Gold?

Happily tooling down the freeway this morning and listening to The Lumberyard as usual when.....

At exactly 0900 Leslie Gore's "It's My Party" was suddenly interrupted mid-song with a soft female voice singing the praises of some doctor who was about to speak on hormone imbalance. Just as the good doctor started speak there was a plethora of other voices including The Beatles "Nowhere Man" and that lovely aforementioned female voice. After ten or fifteen seconds or so the random voices disappeared and the good doctor proceeded to expound on his lecture.

As fast as my little fingers could go, I hit the "FM" button and was back in the world on KOOL.

Switching back a couple of times the good doctor was still ranting, er, talking as of 35 minutes later. Alas, I drove home with white knuckles gripping the steering wheel and thinking of the nasty note I would write later to The Lumberyard's PD......oh.....wait.....he never answers, probably never reads and is most likely not interested. DAMN! We sure don't need another AM talker in the Valley of the McBush.

Our hunch is one hour of Colon Blow pays the monthly SRP power bill (Nurse Jeff and I wonder just how green that 5kw xmtr is, given the junkyard condition of the tower site). All those two way radio antennas hanging off the stick must bring in revenue, too. Imagine how much money Gumpdusky could pull in if they cared about Lumberyard 14~Forty?

Besides the abrupt mid-song cutaway to Colon Blow Thursday,
are you also inferring that Lumberyard 1440 did not do a
legal ID in proximity to 0900?

I honestly couldn't say whether they did or not. I don't pay a lot of attention to legal ID's. Seems to me though they throw one in every several songs so I'd guess they were close if not right on the moment.

As a public service, Nurse Jeff and I offer the lyrics of this played to death oldie by the manly looking Ms Gore:

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Playin' my records, keep dancin' all night
Leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancin' with me
I've got no reason to smile

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Judy and Johnny just walked through the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring

- - Everyone sing along with Lumberyard 14~Forty - -

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

A tip of the fez to Quincy Jones for producing this unforgettable gem that sounds better on AM than FM!

Most of those are just jingles. If you hear them sing
"KAZG Scottsdale" then it's the legal. They use a
slightly elongated stager bed for the TOH.

Was Leslie Gore EVER happy?

Nurse Jeff tells me once: at a Mercury game when the Guv was coaching ::)

How come we never hear Sunshine, Roses & Lollipops on 14~Forty? We'll call it in next time they do an all request from the Lumberyard weekend!

...hmmm---you didn't catch her guest star turn on Batman, didja? She may have been playing Pussycat off-stage as much as on http://www.sumo.tv/watch.php?video=3194970 but she didn't look like a man back in the day...

The manly-looking Ms Gore????

Ah, Doktor Ak-U-Bar, your eyesight (and perhaps memory) is failing. Back in the day she was absolutely gorgeous - and with the most electric blue eyes I ever saw on any female. Ahhhhhh.....<snapping back to reality>.......

In the immortal words of Tommy James and the Shondells*....Just A Mirage as her record label went overboard to make certain everyone knew she was more interested in Johnny than Judy. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Duane Eddy "Because They're Young"...another golden oldie that sounds better on AM than FM. Nurse Jeff hums it all the time at the Media Hut, which I find quite annoying!

* A Super Hit Artist featured around the clock daylight hours only on Lumberyard 14~Forty.

How about an infomercial hosted by Dick Clark selling a Duane Eddy hits compilation and Leslie Gore's latest album?

Would you listen to that on your hour and forty minute, $375 a week commute?

At least by playing Duane Eddy they're tipping the fez to the newly late-but-local Phoenician Lee Hazelwood.

Yes, indeedy...some velvet morning when Nurse Jeff and I are straight, we'll be listening to Lumberyard 14~Forty for a Hazelwood classic!

Enough on Leslie Gore! Let's move the discussion to Skip & Flip and Duane Eddy.

Thank you

40 Miles of Bad Road-the best Duane Eddy song ever! Recorded in Phoenix with the afore mentioned awesome Lee Hazlewood at the helm.

Dr. Akbar is correct about Ms. Gore's dating preference (from what I've always heard) but she is indeed a lovely and intelligent lady. I think she was a Sarah Lawrence grad.
