Information wanted on Don Crawford

There was a DJ named Don Crawford who was on KOFY 1050 in SF, and in later years on KRIM-FM in Tuscon.

Do any of you know anything about this DJ?

Thanks,

Mike

Crawford was actually in Phoenix, doing the KOOL Gold format, which aired at KOFY.

The owners of Crawford Broadcasting, a Christian broadcaster, are Don Crawford and Don Crawford, Jr. but I have no idea if they are related or, for that matter, if the KOOL Gold jock's real name was Crawford.

A further PS: The most recent mention of Don I can find is in the December 15, 1989 R&R, when, while still with SMN's KOOL Gold network, he broadcast live from the Brandenburg Gate in Germany.

More from Billboard: In August, 1993, Crawford was doing overnights at KOOL-AM in Phoenix and moved up to mornings temporarily to replace Danny Davis, who went across the street to KPSN. They made the move to mornings permanent in February of '94.
The trail goes cold after that, with zero mentions of "Don Crawford" in the rest of the 1990s, the 2000s or the 2010s.

KOOL sold and changed call letters in '96.

There is an aircheck of Mr. Crawford on 960 KOOL Gold from December 1994 on Archive.org. KOOL Gold 960 AM Phoenix Don Crawford AM Drive 12 26 94 Unscoped : Steven Green : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

I do not think this Don Crawford is the same person as either of the principals of the religious Crawford Broadcasting. Don Crawford Sr. has been president that company since the early 60s, and Don Crawford Jr. apparently joined Crawford Broadcasting in 1989 (per Wikipedia, so grain of salt).

Thank You. Very good responses and information. Michael, you are correct that KRIM was out of Payson. I have been listening to old cassette tapes I recorder of KRIM in the 1990's. At that time the oldies broadcast was on 104.3 and 106.5. The weekend play list was fantastic and I very much enjoyed this oldies station.

While were on the subject of KRIM........

Tanya Grant, a young new DJ, was also at this station doing mid-days. She soon moved to California to do mid-days at KABX-FM out of Modesto. I happened to hear her while I was driving to Yosemite for vacation a year or so later after the AZ visit. She was a wonderful radio personality. I understand she stayed with this station for about 22 years until she and her husband moved back to the Tuscon area.

KRIM is still in Payson as a low-power "community station", operating with a blazing 4 watts on 96~Three. Like a number of other LP stations, KRIM plays footloose and fancy free with underwriting announcements that sound more like commercials.
