Informercials all the time.

It seems like every time I fire up the ole boob tube here in the Hartford-New Haven area at the 7pm pre primetime time slot, the locals are running informercials in place of top syndicated programming. What they trying to scare viewers to other channels
before 8pm, and they forget to return.running them at 2am when nobody is watching
guess is a loss at that time.do they make more money running them instead of running the reguler shows.

What's easier to do, sell twenty 30 second spots or sell the whole thing to one advertiser and get a guaranteed check? Add the current state of the economy and it's a no brainer. And that 7pm slot you talk about as being ripe for something networky is really a great time for a local to sell the space rather than share it with anyone else. It's their option to use it or play something else.

Yea it tough but economics is changing everything. I think we are seeing fundamental changes in the way everything works these days. I don't think it's all necessarily good, but part of the new landscape that isn't formed yet, still in it's magma stage. It will be interesting to see how radio and TV pan out in a few years.

YesI agree.I just hate to see the main locals turning into a informercial channel like ch 26 New London CT.

We have one here in the Boston area, WMFP Channel 62. All infomercials, all the time.

Yesterday Channel 3 showed an informercial for the KODAK all in One Printer at 12 Noon instead of its 12PM Newscast and again at 7PM instead of Inside Edition.

As for Channel 26 they're gonna be removing two hours of infomercials sometime in 2009 as ION will be adding another hour of programming and also QUBO will move to 2PM-3PM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. (From the current 3PM-4PM). No official date has been given as of yet.

Uhhhhh... Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the infomercials are part of ION's programming.

It looks like ,I will get to see ET weekend on WFSB for once.due to football overruns and infomercails in it's time slot. Also that bullshlit syndex crap on WCBS 2 run so i cant watch it on that channel..anywayI wont hold my beath. TV station are worrying about
the bottom line and the bills and not the viewers, which are trying to enjoy normal programming, they should go out of business.

What I don't like is that the locals, for example in the Hartford/New Haven market fill the mornings (weekends primarily) with infomercials when they could air sitcom reruns or old cartoons. They were doing this in the 90s, then it stopped. I commend TV38 for airing at least The Three Stooges on Sundays and WGN America for their recent acquisitions.

The biggest offender in a large market would be WWOR in New York (actually the #1 market). Some weekends they air infomercials right through 3PM. And to think they were a Superstation. I liked it when they aired Who's The Boss? and a couple other classics. It's sad that these locals are giving in to the national networks.

Speaking of tv38. I miss these channels on cable,we HAD TV38, Ch56 out of boston.and ch9 and ch11 out of new york back in the 1980's on my cable until the bullcrap started up on dropping these out of state channels, soon we probably be loosing all the New York channels in the future.anyway those channels are starting to get useless with that syndex crap rule now.anyway these channels mentioned use to run good sitcoms, drama shows all the time until Pax,WB,UPN crap started to wipe out the indies.and now ION,CW. and what ever else.oh also loaded with infomercials.
