Inland Empire Radio... Question from an outsider

Hello everyone out there in Southern Cali!

I’m from New York State, but I watch California radio closely. I enjoy reading the Cali boards.

But, if you’ll forgive me, I have a posting question that you radio-info Cali radio geeks can help me with, if you don’t mind.

One of the markets that I like to watch is the Inland Empire (Riverside, San Bernardino, Corona, etc.) It is market 26 or 27. (I’ve read conflicting reports about it’s arbitron market ranking.) Anyway, I see no board deticated to that market. Now, on this Los Angeles board, it says: “For discussion of radio in Los Angeles and Southern California.” Well, the Inland Empire is, from what I’ve heard, part of Southern California. So, do postings about Inland Empire radio go on this board, or do they go on the California state board below.

Look. I know I’m not from Cali, but please have mercy, and don’t hold that against me. Just like you, I love radio. If you could please help me out here, I’d be very greatful.

I would say Riverside (which includes Palm Springs, which we've discussed here) and San Bernardino county qualify as Southern California. Plus, the IE is in the LA TSA.
 
Oswego Jeremy, I am a Jersey boy transplant out in SoCal for 23+ years now. One thing I am confident about: Don't ever say "Cali" !!!! It's OK to say "SoCal" but not "SoCali". Also people who live in Orange County (like myself) really hate the nickname "The O.C". yucccch. You should know better about saying "Cali" after all you're only about 15 miles from Mexico! ;D

I didn't know you shouldn't say "Cali." And, yeah, not only am I 15 miles from Mexico, but, just past that is the little town of Texas. So, you could say that I live near Texas and Mexico! Haha.

Okay, now, I'm still unclear as to whether or not I can post stuff about Inland Empire Radio on here. Can I take reply number 1 as a yes? I'm still unsure.

Absolutely post away, I've never seen Inland Empire-related posts elsewhere except on the LA Board. Welcome and stay thirsty my friend!

The one's who really abuse the abbreviations are the out-of-state, ex-beauty queens who become weather girls on Southland TV. They're too 'friggin' lazy to pronounce it out. It's always "the O.C. and the I.E." As someone who was born and raised in So. Cal. it really fries me to hear them say it. And I've heard it a few times on radio too.

However, "L.A." is OK.

And, don't ever call San Francisco "Frisco" or you'll be in a world of hurt. Frisco is in Texas; San Francisco is in California.

And those beauty pagent runner-up weather girls don't know their I-Es from their O-Cs. With the mountains, weather in San Bernadino can be different than Riverside. In fact, San Bernadino County is the largest county in the United States.

And with the time alotted for weather, I don't know why they don't forgo the jokes with the anchor people, and call the Inland Empire the Inland Empire instead of the I-E. The same goes for Orange county.

And, some of those weather girls aren't even eye candy.

This is true. A real local will identify the town or region and forgo Inland Empire altogether. "Yucaipa, what the...?" But a local knows where it is.

Don't forget the Inland Empire's number one station...."The I.E.'s Hottest Music 99.1 KGGI". I think IE is accepted, or there listeners are all from out of state.
 
Yeah, I listen to KGGI online a lot, and I hear "IE" all the time. I've even heard "Cali" on a couple of LA stations, therefore, I thought it was okay to say.

Okay, um, oh boy, I'm such an outsider, um, okay. I've read the posts from c5 and SoCalTom about the TV weather girls? Um, does the Inland Empire have it's own TV stations, or do Riverside, San Bernardino, ETC get weather and news from the LA TV market.

There's a couple of UHF stations in the San Bernadino/Riverside market; however, they are mostly "home shopping/infomercial" types. Most, if not all, of the Inland Empire news, etc. comes out of L.A. KNBC, KCBS and KABC have Inland Empire news bureaus.

Several of the Spanish language stations are licensed to the IE.

There is no IE TV market. The LA TV market includes Riverside, San Bernadino, LA, Orange and Ventura counties. The radio market is just LA and OC.
